Recently I signed up for “Google analytics”, which allows you to monitor who is hitting your pages and see what keywords are “working” and if there are any problems with your pages.
It helped me mostly to clean up my code and page identification; I couldn’t care less about the commercial aspects of things. I made a few changes to how the site was working, including removing a global ban on “robots” searching through the whole site and not just the front pages.
Google quickly came in and sucked up everything.
And I noticed the hits going up, especially on the search term “Beirut diary”, which made me glad–I was determined to get a spin-free version of things out there….in fact, because the site in general is linked from the outside a lot, “Beirut Diary” had my pages #1 in Google searches on the term.
But then something weird happened. Instead of progressing with the other keyword searches, the Beirut searches stopped. Meaning, no searches on “Beirut diary” bring up anything from the web site before the third or fourth page in their search listings.
I was thinking this was their algorithm that prefers commercial web sites, but then it wouldn’t make sense that it “all of a sudden” shifted.
Unless they are monitoring this stuff.
I’m still trying to figure it out, and *perhaps* there is some weird algorithmic answer, but I still find it very strange.

I have been concerned about google. Their new interface defaults to “safe search”. To get an unfiltered (less filtered?) return users are required to click on the preference page and set to unfiltered (less filtered?).
What happens if I select a URL using the unsafe search? Will Black Water hear about it and break down my door?
I use search engines for work related technical stuff – and google – instead of returning the information I am looking for at the top of the search, instead, fills the first few pages with services I can buy (instead of information I need for the services I sell).
So – what to do – write google – ask them what happened to their creed of “do no evil” (isn’t not fully informing to a direct request really just a lie?).
So what do do?
Google george bush war criminal and you’re likely to get links to the how george the useful idiot and his cronies are murdering old men in caves suspected of being war criminals – every once in a while a return URL with the intent of the search will appear – but the pages are scarce – and info that used to be returned a few months back doesn’t seem to show on the lists anymore.
Here are two good unfiltered search engines that are not google clones and do not sell google click ads:
ixSearch (for general purpose social and political searches – google the stooge war criminal and compare the returns to what google shows you. The URL is:

For technical searches use Scirus. The URL is:

Write google – tell them you thought their corporate creed was “do no evil”. Ask what they meant. Withholding information is a lie. A lie is a sin. Sin is evil. How can google pretend to “do no evil”?

What you’re seeing may be an overseas manifestation. Is it governmental? China is requiring cooperation (censorship) from the flagship carriers operating within its territorial confines. When I Google, “george bush war criminal ,” what I receive is page upon page of criminal and impeachment information. I’m searching from the S.F. Bay Area of California. Is this Google, your government or both, that’s the problem?

What can you say….. Google, started with seed money from the CIA (evil incarnate) lives within the CIA’s Orwellian world where good is evil, evil is good. Completely removed from what we proles regard as good and evil.
The CIA has been controlling information by controlling the mass media, by engaging in psyops, cointelpro, disinformation and misinformation for 60 years. Why would any reasoning person imagine that they have suddenly stopped doing so?

I agree with the above post. To expect google (or any other search engine) to be free of sensorship is silly. The whole aspect of thinking that Internet is nothing, but not-well-controlled channel of information is not acceptable. It’s sensored, it’s controlled, it’s going to get worse… Take a look at MSN and it gives you an idea to what to expect from google in a future, but in a more sophisticated, “algorythmic” way… Lots of fluff, no substance… Lots of “bling, bling…”

on top of every web site code is the doctype all web traffic that has this is going thur the http://www.w3.org server there address is right there. they clam it is for other reasons but thats bs You only have to look who is running the w3. i have them posted at http://www.ugandazeda.org/onn/ if You can not find them at w3.org remove this doctype asap it does nothing all browsers will still be able to read Your page. ed
