TWO WRONGS DO NOT MAKE A RIGHT

(Ben Heine © Cartoons)

Israel is a party to a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip…. but continues to systematically destroy the infrastructure and the people living in the Occupied West Bank. Israel might see a difference between the two entities of this separated nation… but Palestine is ONE…. and Palestinians are ONE.

It cannot be expected for the people of Gaza to ignore the plight of their brothers living under the same occupation they live under. The same holds for the residents of the West Bank, the ending of the siege in Gaza is first and foremost on their minds.

The Israeli army assassinated a Palestinian militant in Ramalla yesterday, resulting in a retaliation from the Gaza area in the form of a rocket attack on Sderot… these ‘eye for eye’ actions can only lead to the continuation of the siege, the occupation and the ongoing holocaust. Not only do two wrongs not make a right, but worse yet, the ones in the wrong get the go ahead to continue in their destruction.

Restraint,
Patience,
Honesty,
All of the above must be demonstrated by the Palestinians. The world must see which side really wants that ceasefire to last and eventually lead to a lasting peace…. Let’s show the world we can do it!

It will take years, many years, for a love to develop between Palestinians and Israelis…. but it will develop. The ceasefire can become permanent, but it must be adhered to by both sides. Shaky as it is, it is a possibility… at this point there is no viable option.

GIVE PEACE A CHANCE!

Hamas urges factions exercise restraint; condemns IOF crimes in W. Bank

Palestinian Information Center

GAZA– Hamas Movement has urged on Tuesday Palestinian resistance factions for self-control, and invited them to remain adherents to the Palestinian national consensus on the truce in the Gaza Strip.

However, the Movement called on all concerned parties in the regional and international arenas to put pressures on the Israeli occupation government in order to stop its crimes against the Palestinian people in the West Bank.

In a written statement he read, and a copy of which obtained by the PIC, Dr. Sami Abu Zuhri, the spokesman of Hamas Movement in Gaza Strip, said, “Hamas Movement confirms her adherence to the truce agreement, and calls on all Palestinian resistance factions to abide by what had been agreed-upon nationally”, explaining that Hamas was discussing the truce with Palestinian factions to keep it intact.

Hamas’s remarks came after the armed wing of the Islamic Jihad, the Quds Brigades, took the credit for unleashing three home-made missiles at the Israeli settlement of Sderot in retaliation to the IOF troops’ assassination of an Islamic Jihad leader in the West Bank city of Nablus on Monday.

In spite of the Islamic Jihad retaliation, the Movement confirmed it was still faithful to the Palestinian national consensus on the truce, explaining that the missile attack was an “exceptional message” to the Israeli occupation government.

Nevertheless, the Islamic Jihad warned it would turn Sderot colony into a ghost city if the IOF aggressions on its cadres in the West Bank persisted.

Israeli military sources confirmed the missile attack on the colony, saying it caused material damage to one of the houses there.

Special units of the IOF troops stormed a students’ dormitory in Nablus city, and killed Islamic Jihad leader Tareq Abu Ghali, and Hamas cadre Iyad Khanfar.

Both of the victims were sleeping at the time of the IOF troops’ attack, local Palestinian sources underlined.

The PA interior ministry in Gaza city condemned the IOF assassination crime against the two Palestinian citizens, but it called on Palestinian resistance factions to respect the national understandings on the calm agreement.
