Israel demolishes a Palestinian owned home and attack the family in East Jerusalem

The Israeli municipality of Jerusalem demolished on Monday afternoon a Palestinian owned home located in East Jerusalem and attacked the family that owned the house.

The house is home to Ala Al Shiwki and his eight family members and is located in the Palestinian dominated Beit Hanina neighborhood. The municipality says it was built without the needed permission.

Local sources said that the soldiers attacked Ala and his mom, when they did not want to evacuate the house. Troops also kidnapped Ala’s brother, witnesses reported.

Since the beginning of this year Israeli stepped up its campaign to demolish Palestinian houses. Hattem Abed Al Kader, the Jerusalem Affairs Minister in the Palestinian Authority, told IMEMC in a previous interview, that Israel has given demolition orders to 1,200 Palestinian homes and other structures in East Jerusalem.

Israel occupied Jerusalem in 1967. Since then it has rarely given Palestinian residents permissions to built homes, while it continues to built settlements in and around the city, an act which is illegal by international law.
