HELP MAKE CANADA ‘THE TRUE NORTH, STRONG AND FREE’, AGAIN

A federal government funded organisation that has been under attack by the federal government. Prime minister Harper wants to transform it into a pro-zionist mouthpiece. Harper, as you know, is anti-Arab, anti-Muslim and just generally anti-democracy.

Don’t let his administration turn Canada into another satellite of Israel….. show your support for Democracy by supporting THIS organisation.

The current turmoil at Canada’s flagship public agency for human rights and democratic development, Rights & Democracy, is stark evidence of the progressive deterioration of Canadian democracy. The time has come to stand up and be heard.

Rights & Democracy is a Canadian institution that was created by an Act of Parliament in 1988. Its mandate, as described in the Act, is to defend and promote universal human rights and to support the development of democratic institutions and practices around the world. The Act emphasizes that Rights & Democracy is an independent, non-partisan institution operating at arm’s-length from government.

Over its 22 year history, Rights & Democracy has earned an international reputation for its essential work on issues including women’s rights in Afghanistan, sexual violence in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, civil society development in Haiti, freedom of expression in Burma, the recognition of the rights of indigenous peoples by the United Nations, and the fight against impunity for human rights abuses in Zimbabwe. Last April, Rights & Democracy’s efforts to ensure that controversial family law reforms in Afghanistan respected the rights and equality of women received international praise.

Recently, however, a number of events have cast doubt on the ability of Rights & Democracy to fulfill its mandate as intended by Parliament.

Over the last two years, the Government of Canada made a series of appointments to the Board of Directors that now threaten the non-partisan mandate of Rights & Democracy.

Attacks were subsequently leveled against Rights & Democracy’s former President, Rémy Beauregard, on files related to the agency’s work defending human rights in the Middle East. Mr. Beauregard’s death in early January following a difficult Board of Directors meeting made the internal turmoil a public crisis. (For more on the crisis read here). These actions by the government directly endanger Rights & Democracy’s mandate and its credibility at the international level.

The implications of the crisis at Rights & Democracy go far beyond the interests of a single institution. Other defenders of human rights here in Canada and abroad are also being silenced. What is actually at stake is nothing less than the essence of Canada’s democracy – threatened by reduced political space for diversity and debate.

The time has come to speak out in defence of these principles that for so long have defined who we are at home, and beyond Canada’s borders. Parliament must exercise its powers and insist that the government cease its interference in the orientation and operations of arm’s-length agencies like Rights & Democracy.

Please support Rights & Democracy’s mandate and join the call for Parliament to intervene and protect the ability of the institution to fulfill it with the required autonomy and integrity.

Add your voice to those of many other concerned organizations and individuals who see the crisis at Rights & Democracy as symbolic of the state of human rights and democracy in this country.

It was the end of Dec 2008/start of Jan 2009 (What Christians call the ‘Holiday season’). As the IDF dropped its phosphorus bombs on the Gaza strip and Palestinian children were being rushed off to the hospital… or the morgue, our boy Stephen Harper gave forth with one of his favourite euphemisms: Israel’s right to defend itself. His flunkie Lawrence Cannon, Foreign Affairs Minister, repeated it verbatim. The Radical Right is notably short on imagination. But it is remarkably consistent. Anything but blind support for Israeli annexations and ethnic cleansing will not be tolerated. Rights & Democracy in the hands of the Harper regime has become another euphemism.

Harper , a double digit IQ religious fogged head , is not able , due to his reduce intelligence , to make sense of the trail of Treason that his Zionist handlers are leading him into . He sold Canada , his soul and his morals to the benefit of the IMF and Bilderbergs . Even if you show him the 52 unresolved resolution issued by UN against Israel he still will not get the hint . He is the perfect choice for a leader according to the Puppateries …

    Further more …
Harper deceited Canadians about the $ 5 Billions in debt with the IMF under the pretex that Canada needs to built more naval forces to defend against the Russians following the setting of the Russian flag on the bottom of the sea under the North Pole . He didn’t tell Canadians that Canada , Russia and Artic bordering nations ( except US ) signed an agreement to extend national water boundaries in accordance with the underwater extension of their continental shelves , hence the scientific studies including submariines , never mkind that anyone is allowed to fly their flag in the free Artic and Antartic … What a Traitor .

But it’s getting even worse : Harper , according to the international and Canadian Law , is a Criminal ! Knowing about a criminal operation and not taking action or alerting the police makes one an Accesory to Crime : Harper , as Chief of the Armed Forces and member of NATO participates in allowing the opium trade in Afghanist to flourish . Please , someone do a Citizen Arrest !
Considering that the international community proposed to have the opium transfer to the care of the Medical Organizations to be used legally in hospitals ( manufacturing morphin ) and the fact that Harper and NATO refused , makes him a double Criminal .

We never were ‘strong’ and we never were ‘free’. When the CIA, et al, told that traitor Diefenbaker to kill the Avro he was out there the next day with cutting torches and sledge hammers. Remember the Bomark? Canada is an experiment in ‘New World Order’ ‘multiculturalism’. Either that or we have been chosen to be the ‘survivors’ – a pod of maximum ethnic diversity created as the seed bed for the ‘Brave New World’ that will emerge after the nuclear cleansing they have planned for the globe. Whichever way you look at it – we’re all sick and twisted. Probably something to do with flesh eating; remember “Thou Shalt Not Kill” (and there were no addendums and caveats).

The “Red, White And Blue” flyers, brochures, and campaign buttons of Canada’s Conservative Party told me the story, before I even looked at their Made in America platform.

The good news: This is a minority government, and most Canadians have not and will not vote Conservative. They are despised here in Canada.

  11. March 30, 2010 at 04:45

Unfortunately there tends to be a fairly strong leaning towards the status quo when it comes to certain things which is why we have endured a minority conservative government for as long as we have … it seems like forever, but it has only been a few years (seems like forever … I’m repeating myself, but it seems like forever …).

Please, take the time to go to the Rights & Democracy website and send the message (‘support’ them) – it doesn’t cost anything and will send a concrete message to the people in parliament that we care and do not want them to destroy this important organization.

Gosh … it seems like forever …
