Cold and worry by Ismael Shammout
OMG!!!! Did I just say that? Olmert says he wants peace… Olmert told this to the Palestinians and the world in recent days… he almost had me fooled… till I read the following in HaAretz a few minutes ago.
Nothing has changed. Olmert is the same warmonger he has always been… and so is his government who is sure to approve his request for almost TWO BILLION Shekles to next year’s defense budget.
This is money that can be used to fight poverty among the Jewish and Palestinian population in Israel, money that can be used to fight hunger and disease…. but NO… Olmert wants to fight humanity instead. Let the poor folks freeze and starve… that’s part of his plan of ethnic cleansing.
This is truly a man of peace…. OMG!!!! Did I say that as well???
I guess his buddy Bush already approved the request and the funds are on their way…. Thank you America!
Below is the HaAretz article I referred to…

Olmert instructs Finance Minister to add NIS 1.9 billion to defense budget By Haaretz Service
Prime Minister Ehud Olmert on Sunday instructed Finance Minister Abraham Hirchson to immediately transfer NIS 1.9 billion to the defense budget.

The funds would be transferred as an advance to the 2007 defense budget, even before the budget is passed in the Knesset.

Hirchson said he will soon present the prime minister with alternative sources of funding.

The finance minister emphasized that he would not agree to an augmented state budget, and that if he is unable to divert the funds from other budgetary clauses available to the defense establishment, the additional funds would be taken at the expense of civilian ministries.

“There are no sacred cows,” Hirchson said, referring to the possible sources of funding.

The cuts expected in funding to the civilian ministries amount to NIS 600 million.

As a result of raises in the defense budget, Hirchson intends not to accede to the demands of members of the coalition, chief among them the Labor Party’s request for an additional NIS 2 billion for social budgets.

If Labor members of the Knesset Finance Committee do not support the budget, the Finance Ministry will have to obtain the support of the National Religious Party or another opposition party.

The money to be transferred is not connected to the additional funds demanded by the Israel Defense Forces after the Lebanon war for raising the army’s readiness for a future war, and for replenishing ammunition stores.

The figures for the budget will be deliberated further by the Brodet committee for the defense budget.

It’s a fool’s choice. On one hand you can feed and educate the poor. Or you can starve them out and bomb them into submission.

    Decisions. Decisions. Decisions.
