RACISM ON ISRAELI AIRWAVES…..

A radio interview between an extreme right wing Israeli and a Palestinian journalist, resulted in the ‘true colours’ of racism coming out loud and clear…

The journalist, Khalid Amayreh, is a regular contributor to this blog…

Below is a report of the broadcast, courtesy of the Al-Quds Press Office in East Jerusalem….

Israeli radio talk-show host calls on army to arrest Palestinian journalist for “incitement against Jews…and anti-Semitism”

An Israeli radio talk-show host on Friday, 30 November, called on the Israeli occupation army to arrest an outspoken Palestinian journalist for criticizing the Israel policies and practices “too harshly” and for “inciting the world against Israel and the Jewish people as well as for promoting anti-Semitism.”

Samuel-Flatto-Sharon, an extreme right-winger, who also hosts a popular talk-show called “Flatto Bli Kheshbone (Flatto without accountability) called Palestinian journalist Khalid Amayreh, whom he was interviewing, the “most sinister anti-Semite ever.”

“I have seen and heard about many anti-Semites and critics of Israel, but I have never seen a person like you,” said Flatto, speaking in curmudgeonly manner.

Flatto accused Amayreh of publishing lies about Israel and Jews, telling the Palestinian journalist that “you belong to jail.”

Retorting to Flatto’s tirade, Amayreh reminded him that Israeli forces murdered more than 800 Palestinian kids and minors and hundreds of other innocent civilians in seven years and that Israeli soldiers routinely and nonchalantly kill Palestinian civilians in Gaza and the West Bank.

“You surely know that these are incidents, and we don’t do kill people intentionally as Hamas does,” responded Flatto.

Amayreh retorted by arguing that “mistakes happen once, twice, ten times. But when the killing of civilians occurs on a daily basis, it means it is policy.

“Besides, killing knowingly is killing deliberately, and when the number of victims is so high, even intent becomes irrelevant.”

Upon haring this, and before Amayreh could complete the sentence, Flatto shouted “You are a liar, a liar a lair. You are the enemy of the Jews you are full of hate for Jews.”

Amayreh then reminded Flatto that these figures came from Israeli Jewish sources, such as the Israeli human right’s organization, B’tselem.

However, Flatto, running out of argument and becoming increasingly nervous, told Amayreh that “B’tselem is a liar like you.”

Moving to another subject, Flatto asked Amayreh how he could compare the Israeli occupation army’s “defensive actions” in Gaza and the West Bank with Nazi actions during the Second World War.

“You have been saying pretty nasty stuff against us. Are we shipping Palestinians to gas chambers and concentration camps.”

In response, Amayreh said “ You are not shipping them to gas chambers. You don’t have to, you are killing them in the hundreds and in the thousands using classical means.

Besides, we have to remember that the holocaust didn’t start with gas chambers and concentration camps such as Auschwitz and Bergen Belsen and Treblinka. It started much earlier with relatively innocuous things, such as a racist book, the promulgation of racist laws targeting Jews and others, a Kristallnacht, and harassment of the perceived enemies of the Germany motherland.

“These are the same things that are happening in Israel today. Don’t you hear how your fascists leaders and officials are relating to the Palestinian people these days. So, are we to wait until we see gas chambers and concentration camps in Nablus and Hebron.

“In fact, you are already morphing Gaza into a concentration camp by blockading 1.4 million helpless human beings and barring from accessing food and work. Isn’t that very similar to what the Nazis did at Ghetto Warsaw.”

Flatto got even furious upon hearing this. He began ranting noisily, calling Amayreh a Nazi, a person full of hate for Jews, a person who should be dumped in prison immediately.”

“How could you make these wicked lies. We are not carrying genocide against people. We give you food and work. Is this how you are thanking us?”

“First of all, what you are doing in Gaza is very much a silent genocide, at least a slow-motion genocide. Every day, people die in Gaza because you wouldn’t allow them to travel to Egypt or the West Bank for medical care. How would you describe this if Jews, not the Palestinians, were the victims?”

“Atta Meshaker, Ata Meshaker” (you are lying, you are lying,” a raving Flatto shouted, interrupting Amayreh, ostensibly in order to prevent listeners from hearing him clearly.

“How can you believe what you are saying. You are just lying and lying. How could you describe us as Nazis,” Flatto ranted again.

“I didn’t describe ordinary Jews as Nazis. Jews who value justice and human decency are our allies and partners for peace. My problem is with fascists like you who murder civilians and call it ‘defensive action’ and who adopt hateful racism as their mode of thinking and mode of action and then call it ‘Jewish state.’”

“Are you against Jewish state. You have a lot of Muslim states. Syria is defined as a Muslim state,” asked Flatto.

“In Syria, an undemocratic country, every Syrian, regardless of his religion and ethnicity, is viewed as a full citizen. And Syrian state belongs to all Syrians. It doesn’t call itself a Sunni state, or an Alavi state or a Druze state, or Shiite state. But Israel insists that Israel be a Jewish state, although a quarter of its population are not Jews.”

“You see Amayreh you are full of hate, you are a liar, a dirty Arab liar,” Flatto shouted again.

“This is all you can say…you have a problem. Your tongue functions much more swiftly than your mind does. Instead of dealing with facts, you are just calling me a liar.

“Besides, what is a Jewish state? Are you telling me that non-Jews who are citizens of Israel and whose existence on this land preceded and predated you by many hundred of years don’t have the right to equality? What kind of ugly racism is that?” retorted Amayreh.

“You can now return to your donkey room…by…” was Flatto’s last phrase.

PERSONALISED RACIAL PROFILING ~~ ALWAYS ASSUMING THE WORST

Is it human nature to always assume the worst? Are our minds that programmed to think negatively rather than positively in many given situations?

OK… what brought this on you might be wondering….
Last night I went to the local shopping centre to get some take out food for some visitors…. when I got there I noticed that there was a was a large crowd in front of one of the shops… rather loud in their discussions…. rather angry at one person in particular…

I also noticed that the crowd was made up of young Palestinians…. so I assumed it had something to do with the events (or non events) at Annapolis… Everyone around me assumed that it was an angry ‘mob’…What possessed them to assume the worst?

Curious person that I am, I had to go right up to them to see what was going on…. it was SHOCKING!
Ofir, the local Pizza Shop owner had just installed a large screen TV in his store and this ‘mob’ was watching a basketball game between a local Israeli team and an Italian team…

The anger???… aimed at one young man that was cheering for the ‘wrong’ team….

But, getting back to the subject at hand… why did they all assume the worst? Ignorance! There is no other answer, no other reason…
When I informed the others in the centre what was going on they laughed….

If it were a group of young Israelis at the scene no one would have given it a second glance or thought….BUT… it was a ‘mob’ of young Palestinians…. so they had to be up to no good.

This type of ignorance is the type that eventually turns to ugly hatred…. over what???…. a basketball game???

I start every day with a cup of coffee… drank from a mug that has the following quote on it (by William James)…..
“The greatest discovery of any generation is that a human being can alter his life by altering his attitude”.

Let’s all try that… starting in the local shopping centre…. let’s start assuming the best…. it’s much more pleasant and leads to better relationships!

A Call From Gaza Asking for Your Help to End the Siege

By News Editor Delinda C. Hanley and Managing Editor Janet McMahon

Today—the 60th anniversary of the passage by the U.N. General Assembly of the nonbinding resolution partitioning Palestine—is the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People. We’ve been hearing speeches about peace all week from politicians—but talk, as we’ve learned, is cheap. We’ve seen photos of Gazans demonstrating in the streets against the Annapolis conference, to which the elected government of Palestine was not invited, but with few reporters in Gaza Americans aren’t getting the entire picture.

Yesterday our Gaza correspondent, Mohammed Omer, called us to discuss a story idea for the next issue of the Washington Report on Middle East Affairs. Speaking on his cell phone from the office of a taxi cab company in Gaza City, Mohammed told us that he’d have to spend the night in Gaza City because there were no taxis available to take him home to Rafah. When we put him on speaker phone, we could hear the two other men in the office—Imad, the owner of Imad Taxis, and Mahmoud, who works for the municipalities department—ask who he was talking to. When Mohammed explained that he was speaking with his editors in Washington, DC, the floodgates opened. Our correspondent proceeded to translate what two everyday Gazans want the outside world to know. Their words were spontaneous, unpolished, and spoken from their hearts. It’s extremely urgent that Americans listen and respond.

Israel has kept Gaza’s borders sealed since June, when Palestine effectively was divided between Hamas-ruled Gaza and the Fatah-ruled West Bank. But since January 2006, when free and fair elections resulted in a Hamas parliamentary majority, Gaza’s borders have only rarely been opened. That means 1.5 million men, women and children are trapped there.

The owner of Imad Taxis told us that, because of the closure, if one of his cabs breaks down there are no spare parts to fix it. “Drivers can’t work,” he said. “Gas is getting very expensive. I can’t even pay my telephone bills, so soon customers can’t call to book a taxi.”

Mahmoud chimed in: “We’ve run out of everything. After every Israeli attack something more is ruined. Electrical poles, wires, water pipes, and we can’t replace them. Why are we being punished? What is our crime? Is it because we were born Palestinian?

“We can’t fix generators or even keep them running,” he continued. “When there is no electricity we can’t distribute water. We’ve run out of chlorine to clean the water. It’s full of bacteria. A water heater used to cost 10 shekels, but now it costs 40 or 50 shekels—if you can find one. So we don’t have hot water for bathing. Our sewage system has collapsed. There’s no power to pump sewage out and no chemicals to clean it. Look at the garbage in the streets. There is no fuel for the trucks to come to haul it away.”

“Israel is only allowing basic food supplies into Gaza: sugar, rice, flour, and oil,” Imad told us. “Every day my little girl asks me to bring home a chocolate bar. I can’t find any in Gaza. I disappoint her every night. We can’t even buy Arabic coffee. There are no razors, no shaving materials. We’ll all have to grow beards. [Laughter] There isn’t stone, not even cement, to make headstones for graves. We’re using pieces of metal to write names on graves. We can’t buy diapers. Gazans are starting to smoke molokhiya [a green leaf vegetable] because we can’t buy cigarettes. We can’t buy shoes and soon we’ll have to make them from tires. There is no printing paper.”

Their words overlap as they tumble out—we can no longer tell who is saying what.

“You can’t find jackets, wool clothes, underwear, or even socks for winter in the shops.

“Medical supplies in hospitals are exhausted. There’s no oxygen; drugs aren’t available. We cannot find the basic needs for life.

“For God’s sake open the border.”

Mahmoud tells us: “My son has had a visa to study in the United States since last year. He was admitted to San Francisco State. He speaks good English. He has high grades—everything. Last year he missed going because the border was closed. He’s ready to travel today. He’s missing a second year. If my son doesn’t have a future where will he go? Hamas is begging him to join its militia, but he doesn’t want to. He’s volunteering for [psychiatrist and peace activist] Dr. Eyad al-Sarraj’s International Campaign to Break the Siege on Gaza. Help prevent our children from becoming extremists. They’re so hopeless they could find al-Qaeda. We want them educated. Don’t punish our children.”

“History will never forget. Israel and America are creating hatred in Gaza. The whole table will collapse if Gaza is excluded from the peace talks. Who is responsible for us? The U.N.? The European Union? We are not beggars. We are hard workers, educated, intelligent. We need our international human rights. We want to live like anyone in the world.

“We hope you can get our message out. Please open the borders and end this siege.”

PHOTOS OF THE BIGGEST THREATS TO ISRAEL

Palestinians Threaten Zionism’s Supremacists

Lovely to look at, delightful to . . . think again. Palestinian artist, Emily Jacir, is a threat to Israel’s existence as a Jewish state.

Sugar and Spice and everything nice, NOT!! They may look like little girls to the uninitiated, but they are actually threats to the existence of Israel as a Jewish state . . .

When You are old and full of sleep . . . you’re still a threat to Israel’s existence as a Jewish state. Hanya el Kurdi Ashdod has endured forced exile away from her home for sixty years . . .

She’s a threat to Israel’s existence as a Jewish state although they kinda like the embroidery . . .

Pray Hard and you will be forgiven for threatening Israel’s existence as a Jewish state.

Identifiable Threat.

He doesn’t know it yet. But he’s a threat to Israel’s existence as a Jewish state.

No longer a threat. Iman Al Hams, along with 971 other little threats killed since September 2000 by Israel’s settlers and soldiers.

GENOCIDE CONTINUES IN PALESTINE DESPITE ‘PEACE TALKS’

Image ‘Copyleft’ by Carlos Latuff and Yasmine
Peace was on the agenda at Annapolis we are told…..

Try telling that to the families of Palestinians murdered in cold blood by Israeli forces during and after those talks…

Let’s start with THIS incident in Beit Hanoun…

Then there’s THIS attack off the Gaza coast…

And let’s not forget the spread of diseases in Gaza as a result of the occupation…. you can read about that HERE….

So who’s kidding whom? Peace without Palestine… is that Israel’s ‘Final’ solution? Is that the solution supported by the Bush Administration? And the Arab world is being bought off to maintain their silence…
It certainly looks that way….

And you were wondering why I kept saying the Conference would be a failure…. Now you know why.

THE THREE STOOGES AT ANNAPOLIS…

Now THIS quote is funny…. pathetic but funny….
Rice: “No one believes failure is an option”
No one?? How’s about EVERYONE??? Who are they trying to kid????

THE ROAD LEADING TO THE ANNAPOLIS CIRCUS

Image ‘Copyleft’ by Carlos Latuff (click to enlarge)

The above cartoon, just finished by our brilliant Carlos Latuff says it all…. the Annapolis conference will be nothing but a circus…
The following report will tell you exactly why.

In the buildup to Annapolis, Israel continues with Human Rights violations and killings in Tulkarem

Sunday saw the assassination of a young man, Mohammed Qawzah, known as “Azzalayim,” from Tulkarem refugee camp. Azzalayim, 23, believed he had been granted amnesty and pardon by Israeli authorities, but was shot dead at a coffee shop near his Tulkarem refugee camp home Sunday afternoon. A Tulkarem source reported that Qawzah had been told by soldiers that he was no longer on the ‘wanted’ list, that it was safe for him to return home.

Also injured at the same time was, 23 year old Mushir Al-Mansuri, a friend of Qawzah’s, shot in the shoulder and leg and taken to a West Bank hospital. It is unknown thus far whether the Israeli army is pursuing this man or whether he has been granted pardon, it is known however that the deceased was on an amnesty list released by Israel a few weeks ago.

Like many West Bank areas, Tulkarem residents suffer regular Israeli army invasions and kidnappings. Most of the residents have either themselves been imprisoned in Israeli jails or have close family members who have been or currently are imprisoned, held in a cycle of administrative detention which can be extended indefinitely to upwards of 5 years in many cases without ever being officially charged.

One Tulkarem camp resident, Umm S, told her family’s story from a corner of her well-kept home, relating the whereabouts of her 4 sons and 1 daughter: “One was martyred; one has been in prison for 6 years; another was taken 4 months before, after being shot by Israeli soldiers in his leg and chest, and then arrested in his home; and 1 was released after 5 years in administrative detention.” The daughter has spent a year and a half in Israeli prisons. She is 19.

The friend of the family acting as translator cited this one family as an example of families across Palestine: at least 2 immediate family members in prison, usually in administrative detention.

“In the 1st Intifada, the army took our sons and fathers. In this Intifada, they take anyone.”

Referring to the Annapolis summit to begin on Tuesday, he continued: “Israel does not take this summit seriously, but we do, because our brothers and sisters are in jail.”

The translator related his own family experience: “My son is in an Israeli prison. He is 16 years old and has been imprisoned for 1.5 years.”

That would make the boy 14.5 years old upon arrest. The father himself was held in Israeli prisons for 4 years from 1984, and his brother is currently in prison for the long-term.

B, who also translated the stories, has his own story, imprisoned at 16 for 2 years. He had joined the Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, the Fatah-offshoot resistance fighters, at 14 after his cousin was shot and killed in front of him by the Israeli army. Sentenced to 5 years, he had an Israeli lawyer who got him out after 2 years and on 7,000 shekels bail.

He related his arrest: “I was caught leaving my home and taken to the DCO. The Israeli soldiers beat me severely on my kneecaps, then took me straight to jail. They never gave me medical attention. I couldn’t stand up to use the bathroom on my own for one month.”

Post-incarceration, B renounced participation in the Brigades, opting to pursue education: “I quit Al Aqsa because I wanted to educate myself,” he confessed with determination.

Given that he has lost friends and family to the Occupation forces, lost two years of his young life to the prison system, his pledge is convincing, though the future obstacles from the Israeli soldiers and Occupation seemingly unavoidable.

Annapolis nears, but life in camps like Tulkarem continues to grind under Occupation, camp residents continuing to crawl through a mire of unfulfilled peace and amnesty pledges. Life on West Bank roads barely crawls, the number of “flying checkpoints” increasing as the summit nears, the length of lines increasingly in tandem with the hype.

In Tulkarem late Sunday night, Israeli Special Forces disguised as veiled Muslim women, continued with their policy of middle of the night abductions, climbing onto the roof of one home and arresting a man, alleged to be a Hamas member, and his wife, the couple taken to an unknown location.

"JUST TELL THEM YOU ARE A CHRISTIAN….."

“JUST TELL THEM YOU ARE A CHRISTIAN…..”

A DesertPeace Editorial

I was recently informed that a certain tour company (U.S. based btw) which operates throughout the Middle East has informed the Muslim guides working for them in Israel to tell their clients that they are Christians if anyone asks. What the hell is that supposed to mean?

Would an American Jewish or Christian tourist feel uncomfortable knowing they are in the presence of a Muslim? Is that Muslim really expected to deny who he is for the comfort of some ignorant or perhaps even racist person, or should they proudly declare what they are and see where the ‘cards fall’. Are we expected to put our native Muslims ‘behind the wall’ to satisfy these people? Are we to go into denial, saying that no Muslims live in the Middle East?

I remember the days when Afro-Americans in the States were also in a state of denial. They used bleach substances on their skin to lighten it, irons to straighten their hair, anything to make themselves look ‘white’….
Did that too bring comfort to the racist thinking that everyone around them was white? What kind of a crazy world do we live in??
I am on the house committee in the building I live in. I was approached about a month ago by a local real estate agent (also representing a U.S. based company btw). She complained to me that she was having a difficult time selling an apartment in the building because there was an ‘Arab name’ on one of the post boxes. The buyers did not want to purchase an apartment in a building where Arabs lived. Fine, that’s their right…. but it’s also the right of the Arab family to have a home anywhere they want to in their own country. My response to the agent was that I personally did not really want racists like her clients living in my building and to make sure they won’t, I would get the five other Palestinian families in the building to put their names on the post boxes IN BOLD PRINT.

Are the above examples the way we want to live? Are we to lie our way through life to please the ignorant or would we be better off to educate them? I opt for the latter. Tolerance will lead to peace, but tolerance has to be based on honesty…. not illusions.

JERRY SEINFELD; "ISRAEL IS AN APARTHEID STATE….. NOT THAT THERE’S ANYTHING WRONG WITH THAT"

No, Jerry Seinfeld didn’t say that at all, but he might as well have. He was in Israel over the weekend to promote a new movie of his…. without saying a word about the political situation here.

Jerry was not exactly following in the footsteps of his TV buddy George, (Jason Alexander) who was here three years ago to promote an Israeli/Palestinian peace initiative called One Voice.

Alexander spent his time meeting with young people in the entertainment industry, both Jewish and Palestinian. He was joined in his efforts to help the One Voice Movement by a number of others in the industry… they can be seen in this very short video…

But, getting back to Seinfeld, he was here to promote his movie and that was all. He wined and dined with the Israeli Prime Minister and President, joked with them, really turned on his ‘Jerry charm’….

But what about Peace? What about genocide?? What about apartheid???
NOT A WORD ON ANY OF THE ABOVE…..
Leaving me to assume “that there’s not anything wrong with that.”

Well, I have news for you Mr. Seinfeld, there is plenty wrong with that and your silence and turning a blind eye to the situation will not help one bit. In all the years you worked with Alexander, did you ever once talk to him off set? Did you ever once discuss anything serious?

Your show may have been ‘one about nothing’, but there is plenty going on in the world today. Ignoring these evils will not make them go away.
Shame on you Jerry Seinfeld!

Alexander’s visit earned him a ‘spot’ on the ziofascist S.H.I.T. List, (same page that I am on btw…) Seinfeld’s visit put him on my own personal one.

These links are reports of his visit, here, here and here.
And these photos are nothing to be proud of….

IMPEACHMENT OF GEORGE BUSH WILL SAVE THE WORLD ~~ NOT ONLY AMERICA

Normally I would not get involved in the internal discussions of who should run a foreign government, but in the case of George W. Bush I have no choice. My own life is at stake because of his foreign policies. My own country is being led down a path of destruction because of him and his administration. Miss Liberty cannot continue ‘looking away’ from the situation, something must be done about it NOW!

Bush was not satisfied with ‘stealing’ the election to become Supreme Commander of the United States, he had the whole world targeted for his evil plans of destruction. He has meddled in the internal politics of other nations leading them to a road of oblivion. The trail of deaths and destruction left by him throughout the world gives every resident of this planet the right to demand the man be impeached immediately.

The Middle East has never been closer to self destructing since he assumed the presidency. Nations have literally disappeared off the face of the earth since that day. This must not be allowed to continue…. the world must DEMAND THAT BUSH BE IMPEACHED NOW!

The previous post gives enough concrete reasons for the American people to act on this immediately, not tomorrow.

Lawmakers need to stand up for the Constitution and support impeachment

By LINDA BOYD
GUEST COLUMNIST

The President, Vice President and all civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors. — Article II, Section 4

On Nov. 6, Rep. Dennis Kucinich introduced articles of impeachment against Vice President Dick Cheney on the floor of the House of Representatives. For one shining moment the will of the majority of Americans and the promise of this nation’s founders were truly represented.

The detailed charges were solemnly read from the House podium and televised on C-Span. House Democratic Leader Steny Hoyer made a motion to table the bill. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi lobbied hard for votes to table.

In a stunning turnaround, House Republicans changed strategy and voted decisively to prevent tabling the impeachment resolution.

Pelosi was defied by 85 Democratic members who voted against tabling the impeachment resolution. This includes John Conyers, chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, and six committee members. The resolution was quickly voted back to the Judiciary Committee, where it is not resting quietly.

Judiciary Committee member Bob Wexler wrote, “The American people are served well with a legitimate and thorough impeachment inquiry. I will urge the Judiciary Committee to schedule impeachment hearings immediately and not let this issue languish as it has over the last six months. Only through hearings can we begin to correct the abuses of Dick Cheney and the Bush administration.”

Impeachment is squarely on the table, and momentum is building. A year ago, almost no elected official breathed the word impeachment. Now impeachment has hit the House floor, and our electeds have gone on record. Millions of Americans are demanding an end to executive abuse of power.

After six years of state of emergency, the Patriot Act, the Military Commissions Act, continual war and occupations, our Constitution is deeply in crisis. Americans are in danger of losing our system of government and civil rights if they do not roll back the Bush administration’s assault on the rule of law.

Allowing Cheney and George W. Bush to finish their terms without being impeached means future presidents are free to copy their lawless behavior. Of course many important issues deserve the attention of Congress. But the Constitution is the foundation of our democracy, not just an issue. Without the Constitution, we have nothing.

Polls show that 74 percent of Democrats and the majority of American adults support impeaching Cheney. “Never in our history have the high crimes and misdemeanors been so flagrant, and the people of our country know it,” writes local author Richard Behan.

Kucinich has targeted Cheney first, but investigations will implicate the president as well. For the first time in the history of the Gallup Poll, 50 percent of respondents say they “strongly disapprove” of the president. Richard Nixon had reached the previous high, 48 percent, just before an impeachment inquiry was launched in 1974. With these numbers, why aren’t Bush and Cheney gone already?

The vice president is accused of:

  • purposely manipulating intelligence to fabricate a threat of Iraqi weapons of mass destruction in order to justify an attack on Iraq;
  • deceiving Congress about an alleged relationship between Iraq and al-Qaida;
  • threatening aggression against the Republic of Iran, absent any real threat to the United States.

These violations of the Constitution and international treaty are just the tip of the iceberg. More articles of impeachment can be added at any time, and ample evidence to convict is on the public record. Representatives need to introduce articles regarding:

  • illegal war, in violation of both international treaty and the Constitution;
  • widespread domestic wiretapping in violation of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, a felony. Bush already has admitted to this;
  • condoning torture in violation of federal laws and international treaties;
  • rescinding habeas corpus, the cornerstone of Western law since the Magna Carta;
  • obstruction of justice regarding U.S. attorney firings;
  • subversion of the Constitution, abuse of signing statements and rescinding habeas corpus.

It’s astounding that our representatives to Congress carry on with business as usual knowing that Americans lack habeas corpus and a working code of law. I want my representative, Dave Reichert, to block the doors of the House until habeas is restored as a basic human right in this nation!

In light of Bush’s steady drumbeat for war with Iran, Kucinich said he will consider an impeachment resolution against him.

“Impeachment may well be the only remedy which remains to stop a war of aggression against Iran,” he says.

“The most conservative principle of the Founding Fathers was distrust of unchecked power. Centuries of experience substantiated that absolute power corrupts absolutely. The Constitution embraced a separation of powers to keep the legislative, executive and judicial branches in equilibrium,” Bruce Fein, a constitutional lawyer and associate deputy attorney general in the Reagan administration, said in the October 2006 edition of Washington Monthly.

If Congress were serious about oversight, there already would be dozens of bills and resolutions calling for impeachment of Bush and Cheney. The “Unitary Executive Theory” violates the principle of balance of power in the Constitution. The president cites this “unitary” power in hundreds of signing statements that say he can ignore laws passed by Congress.

The First, Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, Eighth and Fourteenth Amendments are all now subject to the caprice of government officials. The Military Commissions Act allows U.S. citizens to be detained without due process if they are declared enemy combatants. Without our permission, this country has become an exporter of torture.

Congress has failed to provide oversight and exercise its authority to rein in a criminal administration. Only swift action on impeachment can redeem it now. The people have done the heavy work of bringing impeachment forward. Representatives need only ask if the allegations are serious enough to warrant investigations.

George Bush and Dick Cheney promote an imperial presidency. They assert that the executive is the most powerful branch of government, undermining the judiciary and Congress in violation of the Constitution’s bedrock principle of shared power among three co-equal branches. This subverts the very nature of our system of government.

“This is an attempt by the president to have the final word on his own constitutional powers, which eliminates the checks and balances that keep the country a democracy. … That’s a big problem because that’s essentially a dictatorship,” Fein said.

Washington For Impeachment and Citizens to Impeach Bush and Cheney are working to inform the public, collect signatures to petitions, provide forums, and lobby representatives. Washington was the second state to sponsor a bill for impeachment in the state Legislature.

Washington State Democratic organizations have passed resolutions in 11 Democratic legislative districts, five counties and the Washington State Democratic Central Committee. Jay Inslee, D-Bainbridge Island, has received impeachment resolutions from almost every legislative district within his congressional district. When will he represent the will of his constituents and honor his oath to protect the Constitution?

The national movement to impeach is a non-partisan effort to restore the Constitution and the rule of law. People across the political spectrum can unite to preserve the Constitution and civil liberties given to us by the founders. Impeachment is the peaceful, orderly, constitutionally prescribed way to rid ourselves of a lawless administration.

The issue is not about removing Bush and Cheney as much as it is about preserving the Constitution and redeeming the office of the executive. The Constitution is the contract of governance between the people and the government. What happens when major portions of the contract are violated?

Congress has failed to call the president and vice president to account, so citizens must turn up the heat. Members of Congress who fail to demand investigations are covering for criminals. Every elected official has sworn an oath to “support and protect the Constitution from all enemies foreign and domestic.” Anything less than impeachment and a full repudiation of the Bush administration’s crimes and violations of the law is a dereliction of duty and a betrayal of the public trust.

If we want our democracy back, we need to roll up our sleeves and get to work to clean out the House.

    PEACE BY DEFUNDING WARS

Withhold from War, Pay for Peace — 2008 War Tax Boycott
The following was sent to me via email by a reader of this Blog. Sounds to me like a good start to ending the war…

A People’s Campaign to Defund the War

Over the past year, peace activists have voted, lobbied, marched, and taken direct action to end the war in Iraq. Courageous soldiers have refused to fight the war. But Congress has appropriated billions of dollars to continue the war and appears ready to authorize a future military attack on Iran. It’s time for taxpayers who oppose this war to join together in nonviolent civil disobedience and show Congress how to cut off the funds for this war and redirect resources to the pressing needs of people.

Register and Prepare for April 2008

This fall, the National War Tax Resistance Coordinating Committee urges all who oppose this war to register and prepare for an April 2008 nationwide boycott and redirection of the federal income taxes that fuel the war in Iraq. Among the groups promoting this action are Voices for Creative Nonviolence, War Resisters League, the National Campaign for Nonviolent Resistance, Veterans for Peace, and the Nonviolent Direct Action Working Group of United for Peace and Justice.

    Building From Fall Direct Actions

This campaign to boycott and redirect war taxes launches in September as Congress considers an additional $142 billion dollar appropriation for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Opponents of war and oppression are encouraged to refuse to pay for the war and occupation they are trying so hard to stop. The campaign will be promoted across the U.S. among the participants of upcoming actions challenging the Iraq war. These include “Days of Decision” actions, congressional office occupations, the “No War, No Warming” action, the October 27 Nationwide Mobilization to End the War, and the November vigil at the Army School of the Americas.

    Redirection Projects

War tax boycott participants are encouraged to redirect their resisted taxes to a project providing health care among Iraqi refugees in Jordan and Syria, a health care center in New Orleans providing care to survivors of Katrina, or to a humanitarian project of their own choosing.

If a thousand [people] were not to pay their tax-bills this year, that would not be a violent and bloody measure, as it would be to pay them, and enable the State to commit violence and shed innocent blood. This is, in fact, the definition of a peaceable revolution, if any such is possible.

2008 War Tax Boycott is sponsored by National War Tax Resistance Coordinating Committee and endorsed by Voices for Creative Nonviolence, War Resisters League, the National Campaign for Nonviolent Resistance, and the Nonviolent Direct Action Working Group of United for Peace and Justice.

THE WORLD IS RULED BY SERIAL KILLERS AND WE THE SHEEPLE ARE ALLOWING THEM TO
    A DesertPeace Editorial

There is no other explanation as to what has been happening to us over the past few decades…. war after war leading to other wars… never to peace.
How is it that the people, the citizens of the world are allowing this to go on?

The wars spoken of have taken on a new face, at one time it was army Vs. army… today it is army vs civilians…. in some cases, army Vs. innocent children. Yet, despite protests and demonstrations… these crimes continue..

The Bushes, the Olmerts, the Blairs and others have one common goal; to rid the world of Islam. They have all cooperated in this agenda in a systematic style only used by serial killers. They have gone as far as to ‘stage’ crimes in their own countries to appear as if they were committed by Islamic terrorists. They point their fingers at Islam every chance they get… when in reality it is they that are the criminals.

Bush and company are involved in an ethnic cleansing programme in Iraq, with the hope of moving the operations to Iran. Olmert and company are involved in the same programme in Palestine. In both cases, the victims are Muslims for the most part. In both cases the victims are innocent of any crime other than being just that, Muslim.

The criminal is the one doing the killing… not the innocent victims. Why can’t the world see that? Why won’t the United Nations do something about it?

How long will we allow ourselves to be led by serial killers? Are we to be like those victims in the ‘Silence of the Lambs‘? We are, in effect, allowing the serial killers that are leading us get the assistance they require from other serial killers…as depicted in the above image by our brilliant Carlos Latuff. Have we all become ‘sheeple‘ with no desire to end this madness?

What will it take for us all to realise that the ‘enemy’ is not ‘Islamofascism‘ , a term created by the serial killers themselves, but rather the enemy is actually ‘Islamophobia, a concept which tries to validate an atmosphere of fear throughout the world.
In the end, the fictitious killer in the movie wound up in a jail cell… how long must we wait for the real killers out there to join him?
