In order for a restaurant or coffee shop to be certified as kosher in Israel, the owner has to pay a set monthly fee to the City’s Rabbinical Office. They then receive a certificate of kashrut that is prominently displayed. Along with the certificate, they also get the ‘services’ of a person who pops in unannounced to make sure all is being done according to Jewish Law. Fine….. no problem there…

BUT…. when they start digging up archaic laws written by racist rabbis centuries ago problems might arise.

Today it happened. The Jerusalem office in charge of Kashrut decided to enforce the following….

Foods prohibited by Rabbinic law independent of any direct Biblical basis

Certain foods were prohibited because Rabbis, as the spiritual guardians of the Jewish Community, felt that eating these foods may be harmful or affect the spiritual purity of the Jewish people, not because of any direct problem with eating that food. Among these foods are: Bishul Akum – non-Jewish cooking:
One may not eat food cooked by a non-Jew. Rabbis feared that this may precipitate an inappropriately close personal relationship between Jew and non-Jew.

Pas Akum – non-Jewish bread:
Similarly, Rabbis prohibited eating bread baked by a non-Jew.

‘May precipitate an inappropriately close personal relationship between Jew and non-Jew.’ HEAVEN FORBID!!!!! This might lead to friendships and God forbid to peace itself…..

The ‘worst’ possible scenario to these people can be read in the following….

Israel warns girls not to “sleep with enemy”

Israel’s Haaretz TV has a story about a new program in one Israeli city that warns Jewish girls not to date Israeli Bedouin boys.

The southern Israeli city is pushing the program in schools by using a video called “Sleeping with the Enemy.”

The Haaretz video shows a Kiryat Gat city representative warning girls not to take part in dating Bedouin boys – something he calls “abnormal.

ABNORMAL???? Meaning racism is NORMAL???? And, needless to say, this all comes about by eating food cooked by a non Jew…

So…. getting back to the beginning, what are the rabbis trying to do? They started by approaching the owners of local eateries in various Jerusalem neighbourhoods informing them that they will no longer be issued certificates of kashrut if they employed Arabs to do the cooking for them. Three out of three such places in my own neighbourhood informed them that they will not adhere to their ridiculous demands and reminded them that quite a hefty price is paid monthly for those very certificates…..

Bottom line is, Who says money can’t talk???? Even when it comes to combating racism!

As an interesting side note, when I ‘Googled’ ‘Non Jew cooking for Jews’ to find the ‘laws in question…. the following is what appeared….

An explanation of our search results.

If you recently used Google to search for the word “Jew,” you may have seen results that were very disturbing. We assure you that the views expressed by the sites in your results are not in any way endorsed by Google. We’d like to explain why you’re seeing these results when you conduct this search.

A site’s ranking in Google’s search results relies heavily on computer algorithms using thousands of factors to calculate a page’s relevance to a given query. Sometimes subtleties of language cause anomalies to appear that cannot be predicted. A search for “Jew” brings up one such unexpected result.

If you use Google to search for “Judaism,” “Jewish” or “Jewish people,” the results are informative and relevant. So why is a search for “Jew” different? One reason is that the word “Jew” is often used in an anti-Semitic context. Jewish organizations are more likely to use the word “Jewish” when talking about members of their faith. The word has become somewhat charged linguistically, as noted on websites devoted to Jewish topics such as these:

Someone searching for information on Jewish people would be more likely to enter terms like “Judaism,” “Jewish people,” or “Jews” than the single word “Jew.” In fact, prior to this incident, the word “Jew” only appeared about once in every 10 million search queries. Now it’s likely that the great majority of searches on Google for “Jew” are by people who have heard about this issue and want to see the results for themselves.

The beliefs and preferences of those who work at Google, as well as the opinions of the general public, do not determine or impact our search results. Individual citizens and public interest groups do periodically urge us to remove particular links or otherwise adjust search results. Although Google reserves the right to address such requests individually, Google views the comprehensiveness of our search results as an extremely important priority. Accordingly, we do not remove a page from our search results simply because its content is unpopular or because we receive complaints concerning it. We will, however, remove pages from our results if we believe the page (or its site) violates our Webmaster Guidelines, if we believe we are required to do so by law, or at the request of the webmaster who is responsible for the page.

We apologize for the upsetting nature of the experience you had using Google and appreciate your taking the time to inform us about it.

Curious George me googled the same phrase. I didn’t come up with the same result, instead, the second link came up (OK Kosher Certification)
Bread, Cooked Food, and Milk of a Non-Jew

Question, if it’s ok for a Kosher certification group to say “Jew” then why is Google so darn touchy? Could it possibly be your ip number being in Israel brings up a different result on Google? Is it just me, or doesn’t it seem QUITE odd? Especially since the first paragraph reads:

“If you recently used Google to search for the word “Jew,” you may have seen results that were very disturbing. We assure you that the views expressed by the sites in your results are not in any way endorsed by Google. We’d like to explain why you’re seeing these results when you conduct this search.”

Could it be that it is a message sent by Google just to ips in Israel? Maybe?

Something very silly is going on with Google!

BTW. that link is quite interesting and detailed!

The premise is wrong. Jews are not a race, they are members of a church parish. There are Japanese Jews, Arab Jews, Ethiopian Jews, and, of course, the descendants of the ethnicity that gave history Vlad the Impaler – the post Abraham Converts who were spared their lives because they told Islamic Warriors in 784 AD that they were Jews, the Ashkenazi Jews. Different races, same church.

De Mille’s epic, the 10 Commandments, left many with the impression that Egyptian non-Jews and Egyptian Jews of Moses’ moment were white flaxen haired chaps who spoke perfect King’s English – wrong – they were African. Take a moment – look at King Tutankhamen’s death mask – King Tut looked more like “a” Tiger Woods than “a” Charleston Heston – but it sure made the yokels in Dog Patch USA feel a special kinship to the Bible stories.

Walk into any Christian Church – idolatrous images the surfer coiffed Rabbi Jesus fills evey wall and cranny. Even Gibson’s the Passion gets it wrong. The real Jesus was a kinky haired Egyptian, perhaps somewhat tainted by the ancestral Hebrews, know today as Ethiopians!

Can you imagine should De Mille’s story been factual and a retentive America was forced to chomp their Easter Sunday Popcorn as the warmed to the pixelated radiance of the boob tube to the fact that Moses was an African – that path would have led them to even darker fears – like Adam and Eve might have been African! It’s hard to be white and in god’s image – when god is black!

Therefore, the Rabbinical Decree is not racist – it’s just another religion doing what it needs to to ensure those offering plates are jingling on Saturday or Sunday or whenever. The response to a decree is compliance, and compliance reinforces the “mystic” bond between the believer and the and the sacrificial shekels he throws into the offering plate.

Religion is a business – and I can’t hold it against any religion for asserting doctrine – that’s what religions do.

I would prefer Jews be declare a race (of course such a designation would perplex the ghosts of Sammy Davis Junior and Tom Lantos) – but in these silly times nothing surprises me. But designating Jews a race , aside from the anthropological and scientific farce it presents, would solve a lot of problems. For example, in the US, most self claimed Jews are Zionists. Right now over half the white house staff and management as well as congressional staffers and political appointees are Jews. Jews being declared a race would reduce that number to less that 2%, or proportional to the ratio of Jews who are Americans, through affirmative action regulations etc etc.

If a church minister can keep the offering plate jingling, despite an edict requiring that parishioners only eat food cooked by other parishioners – so what – especially in Israel – the clock ticks ever closer to the moment that the Israeli version of Judea is resigned to the dust bins of times – even on a sinking ship, future shark chum has to exorcise a sense of purpose.

Who cooks the food is not racist. Russian and Ashkenazi Jews killing Palestinians – now that is racist.

“Who cooks the food is not racist. Russian and Ashkenazi Jews killing Palestinians – now that is racist.”

    Cadavre, I disagree.

What would you call it if it were Caucasians refusing to eat the food prepared by Blacks, Asians or Hispanics because it might affect their “spiritual purity” (PURITY is the pertinent word)because they might get to close to them by eating their food?

    Wouldn’t you call that racism?

It’s a whole lot easier to think you have the right to kill a people with impunity if you think you shouldn’t even eat their food because it might bring you too close together. Food prepared by you own religion is pure for the spirit, food prepared by others is not?

Come on, teaching a people this is SETTING UP the propensity for grievous mischief against the butcher, the baker or the candelstick maker who is the “other” unclean one. That IS racism.

Pas Akum: Pan no judo. It’s not racist. The only thing denied by the refusing diner is the possible enjoyment of an exotic cuisine from another culture.

This story is noting more than attempt to divert from the on going murder in the “concentration camps” the west has generously provided for Palestinians under the blessed occupation of Israel and to create food police. It’s ridiculous and a waste of pixels to even load the story:
The National Children’s Bureau, which receives £12 million a year, mainly from Government funded organisations, has issued guidance to play leaders and nursery teachers advising them to be alert for racist incidents among youngsters in their care.
This could include a child of as young as three who says “yuk” in response to being served unfamiliar foreign food.

But I am in a different queue than most. For example, I believe Israel should jeopardize and risk being destroyed by attacking Iran. I believe another neocon, and it seems Obama will do it, for he seems every bit as neocon as Bush or McCain or Hillary, should be elected to implement the continued corporate rape of Americans.

Why – because a collapse into anarchy would be a faster path to where humanity needs to be than pretending the promised cure for out ails is just another election, or, in the case of this story, another kind of policing, “food preparation police” will just prolong the suffering and make the best medicine, the end of Israel and the United States in their current form, a bigger catastrophe. Better now than later.

Besides – have you ever worked in the food service business? The guys who came up with this idea probable have waiters and cooks throwing in bits of feces and bodily fluids all the time. Even a Jewish Waiter can spot an A-hole Jew – and will – even though he claims the same parish – stir in a little ball of feces or empty his sinuses in the Matzah Ball Soup. An A-hole is an A-Hole regardless of commonality to a food service worker. Let the good Rabbis have their law. All it means is that instead of a Catholic or Muslim or Hindu reaching into the toilet bowl to spice up the sauce, it will be a Jew doing it.

Regardless of the outcome – the secret sauce will have the same ingredients!

It’s stupid. The issue is not a turd in the Matzah Ball – the issue is the zeroing down of the dooms day clock in the synagogue. The issue is Israeli subservience to an Israeli government that has enslaved them to US War and Commodity Banks.

From time to time there will always be a turd in someones Matzah Ball. It is difficult, however, to see a future Israel downstream in the river of time.

Besides Robbin, this law is not about ethnic purity, it’s about commerce. Kosher only food means more money to the “Rabbinical Ohms for a Blessing” Industry.

It might interest you to know the biggest pork slaughterhouse in the US is owned by a certified Rabbi. Being a descendant of Rednecks who farm most of the land in my state, including Pig production, I know the value of pig ranching. Pork Bellies and the disposal of evidence – Pigs eat anything and everything – and those rural communities have their own kind of justice!

My hood has big super markets – acres of produce. When I buy chicken – I look at the packaging for bruising and blood – and smell it. Most national brands do a bad job of slaughtering chickens. Bones are broken – blood leaks into the meat and sours it.

Being a really big town surround by lots of rural communities we are fortunate to get a wide variety of culturally prepared produce. One day I was shopping and in an obscure section of the “coolers” displaying the “chicken” I spotted a package of chicken with labeling I had never seen before. The label said “Halaal”. I did not know what it meant. And I am one of those who boycott Kosher foods – I even inspect the import tags for Israeli tags – so I was reluctant. But I picked the package up – it was the cleanest – prettiest – sweetest chicken I had ever encountered in a “big” market. I did not know what “Halaal” meant – I suspected it was Kosher – but I bought it anyway – the quality was just too good to ignore – and the price was good!

I did not learn until later – my metropolis is a grab bag of culture – and it wasn’t long until I learned “Halaal” was the Islamic version of Kosher. I glad it wasn’t Kosher – and now – because I shared the the secret of my Halaal chicken experience as well as the shopping tenacity of others – the store has had to give “Halaal” foods more space!

    “It’s not racist”?

The article talks about who prepares/cooks the food not culture and cuisine!! To those hard of understanding: it means that an Arab is not allowed to cook steak and chips (sorry I’m from the UK, though notice I avoided saying ham and eggs!) because he’s an Arab, but a Jew is allowed to cook your steak and chips because he’s a Jew! Do you understand???? Or would you like another example? This is called RACISM. Is that clear enough? Please get back to me if you need clarification, I have a lot of patience with the slow and retarded.

    Robin and Maha,

It’s not racist. It’s a preference. A food service shop cannot discriminate – But the buyer can – all the buyer has to do is go someplace where the cooks are in agreement with the diner’s preferences.

We learned from Arafat to stay away from Israeli chocolates. I would not go to a diner I knew was staffed by Zionists – that’s not racists.

Israel is a nation – inside their borders they can do anything thing they want. It’s racist – so what – what can you do. Palestinians are murdered and poised daily by US War and Commodity Banker Israeli Slaves – we’ve been yelling our faces off till we’re blue – and last time I checked – a couple more Palestinians ate a Zionist bullet today.

I don’t care what Israel does inside the 242 borders. It’s what they do beyond those borders that is the real problem.

Scream racist to high heaven – where’s it going to get you – Israeli racism makes the War and Oil Exchange rich and impoverishes everyone, including Israelis.

It’s not Israeli racism – it’s the profits the Exchange enjoys from that racism.

It’s Israelis, and Spiritual Zionist in other lands, and not the Exchange profiting from their behavior, that will suffer the obvious consequences.

Do I care – no – I have my own concerns – revisiting the Glory of Masada is something only a Zionist in Israel is interested in. They chose that path – let them walk it.

Our words – our pleas – have not sown what was hoped. The coming total global economic collapse (US government insolvent by mid 2009), will clear out the garbage in the War and Oil Banks – and the historical behavior of Israelis will cleanse history of the Zionists.

Perhaps a better topic would be a post-Zionism world. But poppy in the Matzah Ball – a Jew is as likely to do that to another Jew as a non-Jew. And, since it is Israeli Law – it is beyond our power to address – and even if we could – another Palestinian child, caught another US bullet in the forehead just a few minutes ago – racism inside Israel is better than murder outside Israel.

This is a silly topic when there is so much murder and hate – rather than shouting at the wind – sit back – let the natural consequences of Israel’s subservience to the War and Oil Exchange simply allow the path of diminishing returns to do the cleaning. It’s over – friends – it’s truly over. And Israeli’s – like the rest of us can do nothing – only the clock, now, can fix this – it’s out of our hands.
