Israeli army applauds itself with the removal of two checkpoints, UN discover these claims are false

Cars waiting in line for an Israeli checkpoint

The Israeli army proudly declares on its website the removal of two checkpoints inside the West Bank to “further ease the daily life of the Palestinian population”. One day later UN workers have found the checkpoints still to be in place.

According to the Israeli army the two checkpoints, one in Bir Zeit north of the city of Ramallah and the other one next to the village of at-Tayba, also in the Ramallah area, were removed on Tuesday.

The army state that this step was taken after a meeting held the day before between the top of the Israeli army and the Head of the Palestinian Security Forces in charge of civilian affairs in the Palestinian Authority, Hassin el-Sheik.

The army claims that the at-Tayba checkpoint was completely removed, allowing free passage from the city to the Jordan Valley area.

The Bir Zeit checkpoint is said to be removed as well allowing quick passage from the city to the villages to the north.

UN teams found that the Bir Zeit checkpoint was physically intact, including a concrete watchtower. The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reports that they will re-classify the installation as a “partial checkpoint”, because the Israeli military has decided not to impose 24-hour checks.

However this has been the case for a few months already, as people sometimes found the checkpoint deserted. The At-Tayba checkpoint, that was already classified as a partial checkpoint, was also still present when OCHA visited it on Wednesday.

The Israeli army also began to enlarge on Wednesday the existing checkpoint of Enav, near the West Bank city of Tulkarem. Israeli forces closed the road and were seen adding lanes and physical infrastructure to the checkpoint.

No mentioning of this is made on the website of the army. This reinforces the suspicions some people have that its merely a PR stunt of the Israeli army, trying to convince the US and the rest of the world of its goodwill and not at all intended to ease the life of Palestinian people.

everything Israel does is ‘false’, except it’s murder and mayhem and destruction. That much is very real. It’s time the world realized that Israel, like the United States, it’s ‘proxy army’, must be ostracized and isolated from trade and commerce, because of the murderous policies of both governments. The world can starve these two venomous snakes, if it so chooses. And it must, if it will survive into the next millenia.
