The picture of Obama with his ‘plan’ comes from the Murdoch Street Journal – hardly what one can call an unbiased representation of political reportage. Raising the taxes on the portion of society that is in the best position to afford such an increase – an act that does not touch 95% of the American population – can hardly be seen as a ‘tax increase’ – though it may be seen as ‘spreading the wealth’ in the truest sense of the words. What the plan accomplishes is, quite simply, getting rid of many of the tax loop-holes that have been in place for years and returning the tax-rate to the pre-Bush rate.

The Washington Post and their ilk try to make this into a ‘grassroots’ issue by using the age-old scheme of incitement: while the vast majority of Americans will never be in the affected tax bracket, they are made to cling to the impossible ‘dream’ that, someday, they ‘might’ be earning those top dollars – just as, during the presidential election, one ‘Joe the Plumber’ lied about how much he really made, how many employees he had, and how much the perspective ‘tax increases’ would effect his ‘business’ (which never existed).

The hysteria aroused by those in opposition to reasonable political plans is not based on any valid fears but on the fabricated lies and fears promulgated by those who had become used to leading the nation with those same techniques: when fear failed, lies were told to cover the holes in their fantastic stories.

Now that those same liars and fear-mongers are no longer leading the show they must resort to attacking those who are in power. When you cannot use the truth to attack your adversary, in politics, the use of fiction is just as good.

the British corporation that Obama is president of is NOT the government of the republic of America. If you were an American you would know that. This is why the District of Columbia (England) is not a state of America. You see the British were a bit miffed about that whole revolution thing we pulled here. it was VERY embarrassing for king george when we did that. We beat them in the streets with guns so they are using a new tactic: beating us in courts with books. Get the wool off your eyes and learn your countries history.

    To Aufzuleiden:

You’re falling for the trap of a false distinction.

It doesn’t matter WHO the tax increase affects. If the government can take money away from any specific group, they can take it from us all.

The fact that Obama IS raising taxes is what truly becomes important. The fact that he is doing it without the consent of the governed is even more so.

It’s not “hey, it’s not my money” or “us vs. them,” it is THAT they are doing it that is important, and WHY is even more so.

It doesn’t matter if they’re taking it from the richest 1% of the population… if they’re doing it without consent and they get away with it, they can do it to the other 99% of us just as well and as easily.

Don’t fall for the trap of the false distinction; stand up for what is right, even if the criminal isn’t attacking you right now.

    To Craig:

The idea that the tax increases are part of the trap of ‘false distinction’ is what is known as a ‘straw man argument’ for the simple reason that Obama DID get permission from the people to make the increase: back in November he not only received more than enough of the Electoral College votes needed to win the presidential election, he also won well more than 50% of the nation-wide popular vote, giving him a true political mandate.

That, if you really want to stop being so naive, is the reason why his ‘tax plan’ should not be coming as any surprise to anyone, nor should the health care plan (though the Republicans and many chicken-shit Democrat Senators have fallen in with the Big-Pharma lobbyists to weaken the plan) be any surprises to anyone.

When you simply propose your arguments from the rhetoric of those who hate without reason you are bound to fall into these types of traps; fortunately there are still some people who try to remain objective and look at the people speaking without the benefit (or lack thereof) of having others ‘interpret’ everything that they have to say – especially when those doing the interpreting are from the opposition.

During the election campaign every time Obama’s tax plan was explained it was distorted, twisted around and flipped on its ear by the right in an attempt to scare the working class into voting for the Republicans. Even the language used was carefully crafted for the campaign – ‘middle class’ v. ‘working class’ – how big do you think the ‘middle class’ is in America v. the ‘working class’? Do people even know the difference?

While Obama lumped the two categories together, effectively pulling the working class ‘up’ a notch, the Republicans sought to push the ‘super elites’ down a notch, to make them look like victims of this new ‘tax grab’ from the big-bad black man who wanted to steal all of their toys.

What people have to get used to is that George W. Bush left on January 20 and, until he either leaves on Jan. 20 2012 or is sworn in for his second term, Barack Obama is going to be – in many ways – redefining the way we see the office of the president. Not all of it will be perfect or wonderful – nothing is – but, given that the man was given a mandate to lead the nation I think it only fair that he be given the opportunity to do so, at least until the elections when people can let Washington D.C. *(which is very much part of the U.S. – that was just stupid) know how they are feeling (2010 midterms).

Your only other options are sedition, treason and treachery … none of which, generally, have very good outcomes – and tend to be frowned upon by municipal, State, and Federal authorities (and no, forming your own ‘State Militia’ probably won’t fly considering that the ‘standing army’ of the United States and the National Guards of the individual states have, by definition, ended any necessitation for such potentially violent organizations – turn your guns in at the door.).

Good night, and God … well, if you want to bless America, but don’t do it on my account.

It’s a pity you chose a John Wayne quote to conclude. If there ever was one punk who was real stupid , that most certainly was the racist Wayne who had the breathtaking innocence of stating that nothing wrong had been done to the Natives when they were genocided, because ,after all, they were keeping the land,THEIR land selfishly for themselves. It would be strange to assume that Wayne, inspite of all his dumbness, had a tough life.

The problem with increased taxation is that none of the money goes to Amerika. The banksters have stolen $14.8 trillion dollars in the last 9 months and they lust for more. The more money big govt borrows, the more they waste. It costs them $2 to spend $1. Our military industrial complex under Dov Zakheim loses $4 trillion and blows up a couple skyscrapers in New York to cover it up. A missile flies into the Pentagon and surgically removes the accounting team that discovered the missing money. Why does no one ever ask what were they doing with $4 trillion when their annual budget was $250 billion. Were they investing their budgets with Bernie Madoff?

Do you understand that if they raise taxes on anyone who makes over 250,000.00, small businesses for example, they will raise the prices of their products to compensate for this high tax. That means that those of us who aren’t taxed on paper will still pay for these tax increases but it will be at the register rather than out of our paychecks. Either way we will be taxed. Obama is tearing down our country and he may have won the electoral votes……but how many fraudulent votes were there…..Acorn had their hand in it and they can not be trusted……people need to wake up and get their heads on straight……we are getting change as he promised……but we our losing our freedom…the bigger the govt gets the less control the people have…….we are already owned by every other country in the world.
