To break the Gaza Siege …. In English and Arabic

Submitted by Adib Kawar

This poem was written before the barbarian attack on the Freedom Flotilla, but in the translation I added a verse to salute the European martyrs of Palestine.

A solemn salute to Palestine’s multinational, Turkish and other European Martyrs who fell in their battle to break the Zionist, Euro-American and some hireling  Arab regimes who betrayed the Palestinian Arab cause

A gift to the Freedom Flotilla >>>

By: Sahar Hamzeh

Translated by: Adib S. Kawar

I declared love for you Europeans

Here we are, steadfast, kneeling down for you

I declared that we are from you and for you

I shall remain to relay your voice

I shall remain your heart’s beat

Your conscience’s cadence

A heart’s giving without limits

The sound of love for the chains and cuffs of happiness

I am for you a poem and a caravan for prevailing goodness

I am one of you from your thoughts resisting the siege of eagles

From your belief in my cause

From your love my will grows

When meeting you I shall of myself be proud

Don’t you leave and fear not the Zionists and their wars

Your self don’t take leave on a determined day

Don’t miss your sailing day to Hashim’s Gaza

With the Talmud’s siege you shall like us, be inside the walls

Freedom shall shout for chains’ breaking

To the great one we supplicate gasping, saying that it is you we love

whether you succeed or not, whether the siege you break

like the phoenix, it is hope we revitalize

and with you we fight for the siege to break

happy we are for your unbreakable will

your mornings are sure nuptials

a freedom’s icon over slave’s heads

be the rhyme, the poem and a historical epic

with the dawn of your flotilla my hopes are renewed

your morning is beautiful

and your breaking into Gaza was our aspirations

to you our greetings

and to you  brave European martyrs for our Palestine

the martyrs who fell in their battle to break Gaza…

and the rest of Palestine’s occupation and siege

(Cyprus, 31 May, 2010, 6:30 am) Under darkness of night, Israeli commandoes dropped from a helicopter onto the Turkish passenger ship, Mavi Marmara, and began to shoot the moment their feet hit the deck. They fired directly into the crowd of civilians asleep. According to the live video from the ship, two have been killed, and 31 injured. Al Jazeera has just confirmed the numbers. (ed note… the numbers dramatically increased).

Streaming video shows the Israeli soldiers shooting at civilians, and our last SPOT beacon said, “HELP, we are being contacted by the Israelis.”

We know nothing about the other five boats. Israel says they are taking over the boats.

The coalition of Free Gaza Movement (FG), European Campaign to End the Siege of Gaza (ECESG), Insani Yardim Vakfi (IHH), the Perdana Global Peace Organisation, Ship to Gaza Greece, Ship to Gaza Sweden, and the International Committee to Lift the Siege on Gaza appeal to the international community to demand that Israel stop their brutal attack on civilians delivering vitally needed aid to the imprisoned Palestinians of Gaza and permit the ships to continue on their way.

The attack has happened in international waters, 75 miles off the coast of Israel, in direct violation of international law.

What a sweet poem. I’m lucky enough to be able to read the Arabic version, though, which is better. Something always gets lost in translation when you translate poetry from one language to another.

Quite moving. I’m still in shock at the atrocities committed by the Zionist monster.

With great respect for your cause and valiant struggle against an inhumane oppressor, prayers and best wishes for your freedom and and the freedom of those you love. Viva Palestina!
