Pamela Geller Barred From Britain for Anti-Muslim Rally on London Slaying

Controversial Blogger Planned To Speak at Far Right Protest

By Liam Hoare

LONDON — Pamela Geller, the controversial anti-Islam blogger and activist infamous for her staunch criticism and denigration of Islam, has been banned from entering the United Kingdom by Home Secretary Theresa May.

In a two-page letter which Geller uploaded onto her blog, Atlas Shrugs, the Home Office informed Geller that has been “excluded from the UK” on the basis that her “presence here would not be conducive to the public good.” Her previous history indicated to the Home Secretary that Geller may attempt to “foster hatred which might lead to inter-community violence in the UK.”

Below the letter in her blogpost, Geller reacted to the decision:

In a striking blow against freedom, the British government has banned us from entering the country. Muhammad al-Arifi, who has advocated Jew-hatred, wife-beating, and jihad violence, entered the U.K. recently with no difficulty. In not allowing us into the country solely because of our true and accurate statements about Islam, the British government is behaving like a de facto Islamic state. The nation that gave the world the Magna Carta is dead.

Geller and her co-founder of Stop Islamisation of America (SIOA), Robert Spencer, who has also been banned from entering the UK, had been due to attend and speak at a rally in Woolwich organized by the English Defense League, the far-right movement which purports to share with Geller a mutual concern over the Islamisation of Europe, on Saturday, June 29. “Today is a sad day for freedom of speech,” EDL leader Tommy Robinson stated after Geller announced her ban.

It was in Woolwich that on May 22, the soldier Lee Rigby was murdered by two assailants armed with knives and a meat cleaver. One of the suspects, Michael Adebolajo, justified the action by stating that, “The only reason we have killed this man today is because Muslims are dying daily by British soldiers.” Since the attack, several mosques and Islamic community centers across Britain have been desecrated with graffiti, including swastikas and the letters EDL and NF. On June 23, a small explosive device was left outside a mosque in Walsall, near Birmingham.

In a statement, a Home Office spokesman said: ‘We condemn all those whose behaviors and views run counter to our shared values and will not stand for extremism in any form.’

Under British legal provisions introduced in 2005 to combat terrorism and extremism, the Border Agency under the auspices of the Home Office has the power to either deport or deny entry to non-UK citizens who engage in “unacceptable behaviors.” This covers people who use the media or public speech to “foment, justify or glorify terrorist violence in furtherance of particular beliefs, seek to provoke others to terrorist acts, foment other serious criminal activity or seek to provoke others to serious criminal acts, or foster hatred which might lead to inter-community violence in the UK.”

On the basis of Geller’s work with SIOA, Jihad Watch, and Atlas Shrugs, as well as her previous public statements, the Home Secretary personally deemed that if she were to “espouse such views” in the UK, Geller “would be committing unacceptable behaviors and would therefore be behaving in a way that is not conducive to the public good.”

A blow against freedom not allowing this thing to enter and spew her racist crap forward. Or, we’re just tired of hearing her do it. Hey, Geller: Go stand in Palestine and wait for a white phosphorous shower courtesy of your fellow racists. Let us know how refreshing it is afterwards.

Her and Spencer may have legitimate concerns about various personalities in the Muslim world, and rightly so. Hate preachers and the apparent weakness of the British government to deal with the likes of Abu Qatada and others only plays into the hands of the EDL and the rest of the “All Muslims are terrorists” gang. Again a group is singled out due to the actions of only part of that group, the lack of condemnation from Muslims who are not extreme and who are not supportive of violence and hate speaks volumes as well. When the likes of Geller and Spencer gain publicity for what they are not allowed to do then the focus has shifted in the wrong direction. As distasteful as people may find them and their views isn’t it up to the people to decide if they will go to the places they would have been giving talks on, and make either their case for or against what they say?
Why does any government think it knows what is best for the people? Let them in, only the dumb arse brainwashed thugs will attend and anything else will be managed as it occurs, are the British Muslim community so thin skinned as to want the banning of people who’s views they dislike but who never speak up about the hate mongers in there own communities? Just like Jews, Zionists and Pro – Israeli people are so sensitive to criticism and discourse about that situation.
I have no time for extremism of any sort and the granting of rights of one group over another, all things being equal then the same rope to hang should be given to the likes of Geller and Spencer because the radicals already in Britain who are Muslim have already got their rope.
The EDL are the rough and ugly face of people who have had enough of their governments handling of matters like this, who have allowed what they see as a decline in the morals and values of the home country to the dictates of multi racial diversity and equality for some but not all. A distasteful impasse for certain but not one of the populations making.
Holding people accountable is required and the people responsible here are the government. The British, like Australians are welcoming and generous to people in need as well as tolerant to a certain extent. That tolerance gets severely tested when the likes of Anjem Choudry and others get a free ride, when they see people arriving who are not genuinely in fear of their lives and are just economic migrants.
When the population sees people getting away with bigotry and intolerance based on some pseudo religious doctrine they rightly feel aggrieved.
    So what is the solution?
First the government needs to admit it has made mistakes, and take steps to address the disparity between the various interest groups in the community. Recognition and respect for each groups beliefs is a good start as long as those beliefs and values promote good relations, any group, EDL, UAF or a group of men from a Mosque who preach or act in a divisive and disruptive and violent abusive manner need shutting down, with no fear or favour. Start holding leaders of those groups to account and putting them in the dock to answer to their actions.
Apply the law of the land equally across the people, disband special groups in law enforcement, it is divisive in and of itself.
Instead apply the means, motive and opportunity test to all crimes regardless of who committed them, or was planning them, weigh up the public benefit of a charge or prosecution based on what the community benefits, not what the offender wants, if an offender says it is only because I am (insert colour, religion, race), that you are doing this, then there needs to be a clear and transparent response to that in the form of showing all involved that the offence is the issue, the race or colour or religion of the offender is immaterial, people need to see this in action, otherwise there is a vacuum for rumours and innuendo to thrive in.
Britain is an island, which limited space and resources, population management needs addressing, not by a one child policy, or euthanasia matter but with realistic immigration targets or even moratoriums on intake. Look after the population already on place and manage the finite resources available to give the best value to the most people. As harsh as it sounds an open door approach while all very noble is self defeating. Like the earth itself we are killing the places we need to survive by over population.
Education is the biggest step to understanding between diverse groups of people, currently fear or lack of knowledge drives the opinions of many people in Britain, a little education goes a long way. Humanise the topics that are challenging instead of demonising one side or the other of an argument.
Integration, a requirement of any successful immigration policy needs to start at the grass roots level, allow people the time to adapt, to assimilate by having them live amongst communities that are welcoming and not strange and intimidating. that way native Brits get to know their neighbours and the people coming get to see the people they live alongside as being just like them. Abolish all programs that target people for special treatment, and have all people able to access the community and state initiatives on an equal and as required basis.
Allow traditions and customs of new arrivals to be recognised and integrated as long as they are compatible with the native traditions and customs already developed over millennia, those that are not have to be discouraged by a tiered escalation of consequences if practised, such as FGM being incompatible to modern day standards therefore something that would be scrutinised closely and when found to have occurred the reaction by the state authorities is firm and a deterrent.
Inform new arrivals or community groups already on place that the respect shown to their practises and customs needs to be a two way street and that again there are negative consequences for any disruption or agitation against them, the old chestnut of no carols at kindy comes to mind. There will be carols, if someone feels it is inappropriate for their son or daughter to be involved they have the option to sit that event out, meanwhile the rest of the kids get to have the fun they come to know is associated with the singing of carols etc..and no judgement is made of the kids who stayed home.
Crime needs addressing as a criminal act that stands alone, not a Muslim crime, or a right wing crime. Assault is assault and it requires treating as such, no ifs, buts or maybe’s.
This is a very basic overview of the complexity of the situation in Britain, there are two sides to every story, and as distasteful as one may be to you or the other side they both need hearing, to do otherwise lets us all down, we cannot then make informed decisions. The government needs to stay out of various aspects of peoples lives, they do enough damage as it is already.
