Has the New York Times finally joined the human race?

NEVER SAY NEVER!

But better late than never. I feel like I’m reading a normal report in a normal newspaper. We salute Kershner.

Now let’s brace for the backlash. This is the kind of thing that will get hasbara worked up, and the full-scale counterattack on the Times is probably already under way. I cannot recall ever reading a news article in the Times that is so clear about Israeli human rights violations.

Surprise– ‘NYT’ publishes straightforward report on Israeli human rights violations in Gaza

James North FOR

In today’s New York Times, reporter Isabel Kershner devotes a substantial article to a new report from B’Tselem, the Israeli human rights organization, saying that Israel likely committed war crimes in its attack on Gaza last summer.

An Israeli human rights group said Israel’s attacks on residential buildings in Gaza during the 50-day war against Hamas last summer appeared in at least some instances to violate the provisions of international law and raised grave legal concerns in others, according to a report to be published on Wednesday…

[B’Tselem] investigated 70 cases in which more than 600 Palestinians were killed inside homes, a majority of them — children, women and men over the age of 60 — considered unlikely to have been involved in the fighting.

Simple as that. How much clearer can you be?  A few paragraphs down, we get the denial from Israeli authorities. But then it goes back to the charges. The bulk of the story is what B’Tselem says in its 49-page report, which is titled “Black Flag: The legal and moral implications of the policy of attacking residential buildings in the Gaza Strip, summer 2014.” There’s even an interview with B’Tselem director Hagai El-Ad. And a paragraph that begins, “The B’Tselem report contains wrenching testimonies from the survivors of 13 houses that were hit.”

Of course the Times should have been doing this all along. As I reported last summer, the Times’s failure to quote B’Tselem’s reports has been a serious omission in its coverage.

In the past two years, B’Tselem has been mentioned only 20 times — and 9 of those appearances were in “The Lede,” a blog by Robert Mackey that is not part of the printed newspaper.

    “Israel likely committed war crimes”?

Is the world blind? The attack itself was a crime!!! If lynch mobs in the South of the USA are illegal, then Operation Whatever on defenseless innocent Gazans should be too. Three Israeli teens are kidnapped and murdered with voices of the kidnappers on a recording speaking Hebrew while Netanyahu stirs up anger and hatred without offering ONE clue to back his claim! That is a lynch mob and attacking ALL OF GAZA, even if Palestinians DID do the crime, is collective punishment, a war crime in any book! Why does Israel always get the benefit of the doubt when it OBVIOUSLY commits a crime while on the same hand it stirs up doubts based on lies as a “justification” to attack in the name of “self defense”? I don’t hate Israel or Israelis- they are incredible people- but jeez Louise are the present “leaders” of Israel and its protector the USA good for their alleged constituents? I know the answer and a majority of Americans and Israelis feel the same way. I guess that’s why there is the need for election fraud to perpetuate this injustice!

    ARE YOU FOR REAL ?
“it appeared at least in some instances, to violate the provisions of international law & raised grave legal concerns”

    You ask –
“Has the New York Times finally joined the human race”
    HAVE YOU GONE MAD …..(?)

    * THE NYT SAY – “it apperars at least in SOME instances” ………
    * IN FACT THE WHOLE THING WAS AN ILLEGAL – CONTRIVED – ATTACK ON GAZA.
It was Israeli AGENTS who snatched & murdered the 3 Innocent Jewish Teenagers…giving Israel the excuse to enter Gaza in attack mode.
THE 6 MILLION DOLLAR QUESTION IS – WHO GAVE THE ORDER – NETANYAHU (?)
    * “raiesd grave legal concerns”
    * YET AGAIN THE SAME GRAVE LEGAL CONCERNS …

What are the grave legal concernes ? – you ask
Well you might ask – for they are many & are not being addressed.

    1) WHY HAS NO INVESTIGATED ISRAELS CONTINUOUS & CONSISTENT & BLATENT BREACHES OF INTERNATIONAL LAW (?)

    2) WHY IS THE INTERNATIONAL CRIMINAL COURT LOATHED TO ACT UPON THE OBVIOUS & HEINOUS WAR CRIMES WHICH HAVE BEEN COMMITTED BY ISRAEL SINCE DAY ONE OF THEIR SETTING FOOT ON PALESTINIAN SOIL (?)

As for you – you need a new pair of glasses may friend.

Good words to describe the NYT article …

    WHITEWASH
    WASHING DOWN OF THE …..
    COVERING UP
    DRESSING DOWN OF
    DRESSING UP OF

    The criminality of Israel
The criminality of the ICC that TURNS A BLIND EYE
    MAKE NO MISTAKE ABOUT IT
THE INTERNATIONAL CRIMINAL COURT IS COMMITTING A CRIMINAL ACT BY IGNORING OR WHITE WASHING ISRAELS WAR CRIMES
THE UNITED NATIONS HAS NO BUSINESS TO RECOGNIZE THE ILLEGAL ZIONIST GROUP WHICH ILLEGALLY OCCUPIED PALESTINE & STILL TODAY REMAINS ILLEGALLY IN PALESTINE.
THE UNITED NATIONS ARE PARTNERS IN CRIME
THEY ALSO ARE COMMITTING A CRIMINAL ACT.

The bottom line is that the law is the law – you cannot make a law to make a crime not a crime & to prevent the perpetrators to be arrested & brought to justice.
It is a criminal act to prevent the course of justice.
