Shock follows footage of settler running over Palestinian, twice

Bethlehem – An amateur video shocked Palestinians on Tuesday, catching what appeared to be an Israeli settler running over a wounded Palestinian at a gas station in Hebron last week. The Palestinian, an unidentified man shot several times following an alleged knife attack at the station, appeared to be staggering when a silver Mercedes ran him down, stopped, reversed, and ran him over a second time. The video was reportedly taken on Thursday, although at the time, Israeli representatives made no mention of the settler’s alleged attack, telling reporters only that a Palestinian man had been shot after he stabbed and lightly injured two settlers. A military spokesman told Ma’an that after the two Israelis were hurt, a soldier shot and injured the Palestinian, who was taken to the Hadassah Ein Karem Hospital in Jerusalem. The settler, on the other hand, was released under house arrest. That evening, a hospital spokeswoman told Ma’an the Palestinian was undergoing surgery for serious wounds, but did not mention he had been run over and trapped under a car. The full video captures several soldiers standing by as the incident unfolds. Those who run up to the vehicle and appear to take the keys out of the ignition are armed settlers. The Palestinian is left underneath the car screaming as settlers extract the driver. Several moments of silence follow, after which medics approach the injured man. According to The Jerusalem Post, police believe the driver was David Mizrachi, an Israeli from the illegal settlement of Kiryat Arba and the husband of one of the alleged stabbing victims. He may stand trial for attempted murder, the newspaper reported. Both incidents come as tensions in settlements rise, with settlers vowing to defy recent orders to slow down certain West Bank construction. Soldiers have also shown an increasing aversion to cracking down on settler behavior, with some announcing their refusal to take part in missions that involve removing settlers from what Israeli courts determine are illegally occupied Palestinian homes or outposts. Last fall in Hebron, dozens of soldiers were sent to evacuate the Ar-Rajabi home in Hebron, following which a rampaging settler from Kiryat Arba shot a Palestinian at almost point-blank range. The settler was briefly arrested and later released without charge.

The cruelty that some Jewish fanatics are capable of is worrying. But then I suppose the IDF commits the same barbarity each day.
There does seem to be an increasing rejection of Israel’s tactics by the rest of the world. I can but hope it increases before Iran is attacked!

There is no excuse for how this Palestinian man was treated – but – (and this is one of those Big-Ass Butts) – WHY had he gone to the petrol station (as it is referred to in the video) and stabbed two of the settlers? Do two wrongs make a right? No. This was clearly NOT a case of ‘self defense’ BUT (there’s that word again) had he (the Palestinian) NOT gone there to stab someone … would he have been run over – twice?
I only ask because of the issue of accountability for our actions. If I go into a store and steal something I cannot act surprised when/if I am arrested for shoplifting. If I am beaten by the police, that’s another story … but … had I not committed the initial event (the inciting event, one might say) I wouldn’t be in a POSITION to be beaten … would I?
Before we make this man into a martyr, and I think the man who ran him over should be prosecuted, we should fully understand his motives – there is obviously more to this story than is being told.
Go figure.

Could you please provide us with some real evidence that this Palestinian man attacked and stabbed two illegal Jewish settlers who were already trespassing on his and all other Palestinian people’s lands? Ms ‘LadyBat’, and to DesertPeace – the question ‘do I have a video’ is ludicrous – DESERTPEACE posted the video (which you obviously did NOT watch – and if you did, you didn’t LISTEN). In the first 11 seconds – SECONDS – the reporter says ‘this is the aftermath of a STABBING’.
Now, as I’ve already written – at length – to DesertPeace – I am not condoning the actions of the settlers, illegal or whatever. That is not the point. Why was he there? Was he buying gas? A candy bar? Was he looking for directions? Had a group of Settlers dragged him there to specifically assault him? We have not been given the entire story even though there were two versions. The video, however, provides an interesting theory: he was there because he went there to attack people.
Does that make what happened to him acceptable? NO. Not by any stretch of the imagination. It was barbaric and heinous – but – WHY WAS HE THERE?
Sometimes we have to ask ourselves difficult questions before we start banging the drums and assembling the dogs of war. There have, after all, been instances in the past where Palestinians have done nasty things – even things like suicide bombing. Violence begets violence, and we will never see peace in this world – let alone the ‘Holy Land’ – until each side understands that, we are – in a word – f$%*#d.
Just watch the video – right in the middle of the post, under the article about the guy being run over – you may be surprised by what you hear (and it comes before the blurred-out section showing him being run over, if you don’t want to see that part). The first eleven or twelve seconds – but listen for a bit more.

By the way, Ladybat, if you think that I am an apologist for Israel, Zionism, or any combination thereof, you should think again. Nothing could be further from the truth – all you have to do is read what I have written – posted here and on my blogs (linked here – Aufzuleiden and CrazyComposer – yes, I am DesertPeace’s son) – I am the antithesis of the Zionist that you have made me out to be, all because I pointed out that the facts represented in a story were inconsistent with the sources provided by my father.
If you cannot see that there are inconsistencies then you need to take a step back and ask yourself why you cannot see things for what they are. Palestinians cannot get a ‘free ride’ when it comes to violence – people have to take responsibility for their actions. If people did not throw rocks at the IDF soldiers, for example, it would be a lot harder for the world to call the Palestinians instigators (I don’t, but I don’t think it’s a good idea either) – it would be easier to condemn the IDF if/when they opened fire on unarmed civilians.
Instead you chose to view everything as an attack on the ‘innocent Palestinian’ – and thus, an enemy of their cause. That smacks of George W. Bush’s idiotic ‘if you’re not with us, you’re against us.’ All it does is polarize individuals rather than help to bring them together.
I don’t know whether or not the man stabbed anyone or not – all I know is there are two reports on this blog – one of which states that he did. NOT allegedly, I might add. Contradictory reporting, in journalism, is disturbing – it does not clarify an issue – it raises more questions and I am, quite frankly, disturbed that more readers of this blog did not react to this discrepancy. Apparently I’m one of the few that cares about the corroboration of facts when it comes to the reporting of an event.
Oh, it isn’t ‘Mr Aufzuleiden’ – Aufzuleiden is the end of the phrase – ‘how much suffering there is to go through’, by Rilke.

Being as these insane Jewish settlers in the west bank are all allowed to walk around armed with guns while the Palestinians are not allowed to be armed with any thing and these insane settlers oppress and bully the west bank Palestinian citizens every day then perhaps this Palestinian IF HE DID USE A KNIFE ON ONE OF THESE INSANE SETTLERS, perhaps he found a weapon to defend himself with finally. I’m surprised things like this do not happen more often. Since the world does nothing about Israeli crimes then the Palestinians are forced to try and defend themselves any way they can. And if you do not support Israel sir. Then do not do so now. Not even a little bit. There is no defense for the nazi state of “israel” sir. None what so ever. I cannot tolerate any one defending it in any shape or form and especially I cannot stand for someone who claims they are against israel defending israel in the least bit. Rachel Corrie was run over and then the`dozer reversed over her. Being run over once, apparently, was not enough.
In both that instance and the present one the penchant to apply vastly disproportionate retaliatory violence is also found in the assaults on Gaza of a year ago and Lebanon before that; even when the provocations have to be invented as indeed they were for both Gaza and Lebanon.
For Gaza the IDF chose to interpret the end of a Hamas self imposed cease fire as a signal that attacks would begin, and for Lebanon, a number of IDF guys were sacrificed in southern Lebanon, two of whom were alleged to have been captured but were dead all along.
Summing up, the MO is to create a provocation, lie about it, retaliate – which is really attack, and when attacking do it with a million times the ferocity of the invented provocation.
So i write all this as a kind of musing on the character ties that there obviously are between the micro ultra violence at the personal level of the settler applied to the individual Palestinian, and the macro ultra violence of the Israeli state against a equally hapless body of Palestinians in Gaza.
For there to be a violence which not only kills the designated enemy but shreds his very person, can only come from a frenzied religiosity and not from anything which has a genetic marker unique to Khazar/Ashkenazi Jews.
How do modern Jews embrace modernity and walk away from these Stone Age men of violence ? Yes, some quibble and say that it was in the Bronze Age that your religion had its raw beginnings, but those who think it came from an earlier age ought to be forgiven.
