Wiesenthal Center Protests Goldstone Address at NYU
The Simon Wiesenthal Center is objecting to the appearance of Richard Goldstone at New York University.
Goldstone, the author of a fervently disputed report on Israel’s conduct in the 2008 Gaza war, is slated to deliver a keynote address at the university in late February, according to a news release from the center.
In a statement, the Los Angeles based-Wiesenthal Center urged the university president, John Sexton, not to grant Goldstone a platform.
“This shameful document provides Hamas, which deploys its terror infrastructure within and among Gaza’s civilians, with a virtual free pass, while accusing Israel of deliberately targeting civilians,” said the center’s associate dean, Rabbi Abraham Cooper. “Should Goldstone’s outrageous recommendations be adopted, international law will be used to render defenseless Israel against onslaughts by non-state adversaries against its civilians.”
Goldstone, a retired South African judge, has been a visiting professor at NYU’s law school. He also has served as a faculty member of the university’s Hauser Global Law School program at whose dinner he is reportedly to appear.

The Simon Wiesenthal Center in Los Angeles, California, is named after the famed Austrian Nazi-hunter, Simon Wiesenthal, a connection that turns out to be appropriate in disturbing but unexpected ways. That is, both Simon Wiesenthal and the Center named after him have been accused of flagrant lying, exaggerations, and half-truths. Wiesenthal’s confabulations were never a matter of published discourse among scholars, so far as this writer can determine, nor were they popular knowledge until quite recently. In any case, it is now known that Wiesenthal, a born storyteller, rarely let the facts get in the way of a good story—in fact, many of the things he claimed to have done were fabrications. This recently came to light with the publication, in June of 2009, of Hunting Evil, by British Author Guy Walters, in which he characterizes Simon Wiesenthal as “a liar—and a bad one at that”. Wiesenthal, he maintains, would “concoct outrageous stories about his war years and make false claims about his academic career”. Walters found that there were “so many inconsistencies between his three main memoirs and between those memoirs and contemporaneous documents, that it is impossible to establish a reliable narrative from them. Wiesenthal’s scant regard for the truth makes it possible to doubt everything he ever wrote or said”.

How many Palestinians were killed in Gaza? 1400 wasn’t it? And how many Jews? 9 wasn’t it (you can’t count Jews killed by friendly fire)?
And I love the mention of ‘defenceless Israel.’ With the world’s 4th strongest army (thanks to America) they are hardly defenseless!
