LESSONS FROM AMERIKA

An Israeli soldier kneeled on a Palestinian protester’s neck. The 65-year-old man survived, but the incident is drawing comparisons to the death of George Floyd.

MURDER, PRELUDE TO ANNEXATION

Say his name. Ahmed Erakat.

On his way to pick up his mother and sister from the salon before his sister’s wedding, Ahmed was murdered by Israeli forces at the Container Military Checkpoint, and left to bleed out and die.

It should be mentioned that Ahmed’s wedding was supposed to take place next week.

Another heartbreaking tragedy that no family should ever have to experience. Unfortunately, this is the daily norm for Palestinians. When will enough be enough?

TELL AMAZON TO STOP PEDDLING HATE

Let Amazon know that you live in a

The world was finally rid of the infamous Judeo nazi, Meir Kahane, 28 years ago on November 5th, 1990 …..

Yet, after all these years Amazon is still peddling his (and his son’s) hatred on line under the guise of religion. Let them know this is unacceptable! Post on their FaceBook page https://www.facebook.com/Amazon/

Here is what they are peddling ….

This book contains 104 divrei Torah from Rabbis Meir and Binyamin Kahane — zealous firebrands who died for God’s land and people. Excerpted from their writings, the divrei Torah urge Jews to trust God, not man, and create a truly Jewish country — safe from enemies within and without. Also included in this volume is an appendix with four Kahane articles that typify their thought and reveal how they planned on triumphing despite Israel’s political ban against them.

Surely there are enough garbage dumpsters in your area where this type of trash might be found!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Also this … (Just in time for Halloween)
Imagine being a Palestinian child and seeing another child dressed up as an IDF soldier at school or Halloween party. It’s time for Amazon to drop this costume.
Palestinian children are terrorized by Israeli Defense Forces (IDF). Each year Israeli military arrests and prosecutes around 700 Palestinian children. 3 out of 4 of these children experience physical violence during arrest or interrogation. Letting children dress up as IDF is a shameful activity and Amazon.com should follow the practice of other retailers in the U.S. and stop selling IDF costumes.
PIRACY AND TORTURE
UNBELIEVABLE THAT THE WEST ALLOWS THIS TORTURE TO CONTINUE
 Many people on the Al Awda were beat up and tasered when the IDF fascists boarded the boat.  The doctor on board had 2 ribs broken.  This remains a very dangerous voyage taken by our brave allies out of love for the people of Gaza and love of justice.
Read the instructions at the end of this post to see what YOU can do.
last group photo sent from Al Awda (The Return).
Two people from Al Awda (The Return) have been released, but most of the crew and participants are still in unlawful detention at Givon prison in Israel. We are still gravely concerned for their safety and well-being as we had no contact with most of them as of 14:00 CESTtoday. We continue to demand that our boat and the medical supplies on board reach their rightful recipients, Palestinian civil society in Gaza.
Although the Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) claim that the capture of our vessel happened ‘without exceptional incident’, eye-witness Zohar Chamberlain Regev reports that at the time of boarding: “People on board were tasered and hit by masked IOF soldiers. We did not get our passports or belongings before we got off the boat. Do not believe reports of peaceful interception.” We urgently need to know the details of who was injured and how seriously, and what treatment they are receiving, if any. A military attack on a civilian vessel is a violent act and a violation of international law. Taking 22 people from international waters to a country which is not their destination constitutes an act of kidnapping, which is also unlawful under the international Convention of the Law of Sea.
From the time we lost contact around 13:15 local time on Sunday, we know that the IOF blocked all communication signals, including satellite phones. We are very concerned about this violation of journalists’ right to report freely and we remain gravely concerned about their ability to keep their professional equipment and their storage media. As Australian journalist Chris Graham recently observed “Bad things happen when good people stay silent, as history well records. But horrendous things happen when media are prevented from scrutinizing the actions of a state.”
Two of our participants, Zohar Chamberlain Regev and Yonatan Shapira, Israeli citizens, have been charged with attempting to enter Gaza and conspiracy to commit a crime, and were released on bail last night.  Boat leader, Zohar Chamberlain Regev, reports seeing blood on the deck of the Al Awda as the last participants were being dragged off the ship.
In comparison with the violence routinely directed at Palestinian civilians, including at fishers from Gaza, and the violent capture of Palestinian fishing boats, yesterday’s seizure and kidnapping may not be the most serious of Israeli crimes. What these violents acts have in common is that there is no accountability demanded by other governments and Israel continues to enjoy total impunity.
We call on national governments, civil society and international organizations to demand that Israeli authorities immediately release our boat so that we can deliver our much-needed medical supplies on
Al Awda and the fishing boat itself to the rightful recipients in Gaza. Detailed specification of our exact cargo on board are available on request.
Israel’s capture of the lead boat in this Gaza-bound flotilla may seem like a predictable outcome to some, but that doesn’t make it any less violent nor any less illegal. Our second boat
Freedom will follow Al Awda within a day or two, and the Freedom Flotilla will continue until the blockade ends and Palestinians of Gaza regain their full freedom of movement.
Details about detainees still in prison, including their last videos and personal statements, can be found on our website and Facebook pages.
#Israel’sShame ~~ OK TO RAPE FEMALE DETAINEES IF CAMERAS ARE TURNED OFF
A prominent Israeli journalist, Ben Caspit, has reportedly called for raping and sexually harassing Palestinian females detained in Israeli jails and interrogation centers.
Rape is but one war crime committed off camera
Israeli Journalist calls for raping Palestinian female detainees “but away from cameras”! Where is the outcry?
By Khalid Amayreh
*
A prominent Israeli journalist, Ben Caspit, has reportedly called for raping and sexually harassing Palestinian females detained in Israeli jails and interrogation centers.
“In the case of the girls, we should exact a price at some other opportunity, in the dark, without witnesses and cameras”, he wrote in Hebrew. See Link: https://www.almasdarnews.com/article/prominent-israeli-journalist-calls-rape-palestinian-women/
Although, the Hebrew article was published more than three weeks ago, it failed to generate any real outcry in the Israeli Jewish society or indeed among Israeli intellectuals, politicians and government officials.  The media treatment of the ghoulish remarks was minimal.
For several years, the Israeli Jewish society has been drifting to extreme chauvinism, jingoism and fascism as centrist and leftist political parties and organizations nearly disappeared from the public scene.
A few decades ago, a newspaper article encouraging rape would have landed its writer behind bars, and   turning him into a real pariah.
Now, with the fire of Jewish fascism spreading uncontrollably throughout Israel, racist and fascist-minded writers are looked upon as respectable role-models to be emulated rather than shunned or condemned.
Israel claims to be a democratic and civilized state. However, the fact that a prominent journalist can easily incite interrogators and security personnel to rape female detainees, and his call is treated just another piece of banal news, means that Israel has effectively entered the Nazi sphere.
This is why I feel I must appeal to all decent Jews to denounce, in the strongest terms, the obnoxious remarks attributed to Ben Caspit. Moreover, the American media, always shamelessly busy praising Israel, should condemn the hateful remarks reported.
I won’t appeal to Netanyahu, Bennett and other Israeli leaders to confront this fascist trend, which really reminds us of the anti-Jewish discourse prevailing in Nazi German prior to the Holocaust. Indeed, Auschwitz, Bergen Belsen, Dachau, and  Treblinka didn’t really begin  in 1943 and 1944. They started much earlier, even before Kristalnacht, with the virulently racist anti-Jewish speech, which is very similar to what we hear and watch here in Israel today.
In the final analysis, Netanyahu and ilk are the paragons of fascism and racism. Hence, appealing to them to crack down on fascism in Israel would be as futile and pointless as having  urged Hitler, Himmler, Eichmann, and other Nazi leaders to stop the wave of hatred flooding Germany and much of Europe 80 years ago.
None the less, as it was clear then that not all Germans were Hitlers, Himmlers and Eichmanns, it is clear now that not all Jews are Netanyahus, Bennets and Liebertmans.
Needless to say, it is to these conscientious voices that I appeal to make a real stand against the wave of fascism now inundating Israel, an entity that falsely pretends to be Jewish and democratic.
TURNING HATRED TO TOLERANCE IN JERUSALEM
After finding anti-Arab slogans spray-painted near a Jerusalem park, which has come to symbolize peaceful coexistence, residents were not content with the mere removal of the hateful graffiti calling for Arabs to ‘go home’ and for ‘revenge’, resolving to head for the park to make signs bearing messages against bigotry and racism; ‘We want to live in peace and harmony.’
The racist graffiti
Anti-Arab graffiti prompts message of tolerance in Jerusalem
‘We love our neighbors’
Residents of the Baka neighborhood of Jerusalem were shocked on Wednesday to discover racist, anti-Arab graffiti sprayed near a park connecting the neighborhood with the Arab neighborhood of Beit Safafa.
“Arabs, go home,” and “We want revenge” were two of the hateful slogans sprayed on walls near the park, which was, since its establishment, a popular recreational spot for Jews and Arabs alike, thus becoming a symbol for peaceful coexistence.
“Khaneh was right” was also sprayed on the walls in reference to Rabbi Meir Kahane, the founder of the outlawed Kach movement, who was assassinated in Manhattan in 2012.
The stunned residents reported the vandalism to the city municipality, which was promptly removed.
Not content with the mere removal of the graffiti, some of the residents made their way to the park with their children—still during their Passover holiday—and made big colorful signs bearing the opposite message of the hateful graffiti: ‘We love our neighbors.’
Ilana Nelson, a resident of the neighborhood who made the sign with her kids, said “our message, the message of the residents, is that we do not tolerate racism.
“We want to live in peace and harmony with our neighbors. Just yesterday I was at the park with my husband and I saw a nice couple, an Arab Muslim and a woman wearing a Hijab, who asked a Jewish couple to take their picture,” she added.
“I thought we lived normal lives in a normal world, and then we woke up to that.”
Nelson’s son, who studies at Jerusalem’s Yad be-Yad Max Rayne Bilingual School, wrote the sign in both Hebrew and Arabic.
IRONIC TWIST TO TRUMP’S POLICIES
170124113704-02-trump-exec-order-0124-screengrab-large-169
The White House just cited the Quebec mosque attack to justify Trump’s policies
“It’s a terrible reminder of why we must remain vigilant, and why the president is taking steps to be proactive, rather than reactive,” said White House press secretary Sean Spicer on Monday
U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration is citing the Sunday attack on Muslims in Quebec City as an example of why his own policies are needed.
“We condemn this attack in the strongest possible terms. It’s a terrible reminder of why we must remain vigilant, and why the president is taking steps to be proactive, rather than reactive, when it comes to our nation’s safety and security,” press secretary Sean Spicer said at his daily briefing on Monday.
And the twist I mention above ….
Quebec Mosque shooting suspect was a fan of Donald Trump and Marine le Pen
Alexandre Bissonnette was described by one former classmate as a ‘nerdy outcast’
The French-Canadian student charged in connection with a shooting spree that killed six people at a Quebec City mosque was a supporter Donald Trump and far-right French politician Marine Le Pen.
Described by one former classmate as a “nerdy outcast.” Alexandre Bissonnette, is the sole suspect in the shooting.
The 27-year-old was charged with six counts of first-degree murder and five counts of attempted murder with a restricted weapon. Police said he acted alone.
Bissonnette’s online profiles show a wide variety of interests.
On his Facebook page, he indicated he liked Le Pen, US President Donald Trump, the separatist Parti Quebecois as well as Canada’s left-wing New Democratic Party, the Israeli Defense Forces, heavy metal band Megadeth and pop star Katy Perry.
“I wrote him off as a xenophobe. I didn’t even think of him as totally racist, but he was enthralled by a borderline racist nationalist movement,” Vincent Boissoneault, a fellow Laval University student, told The Globe and Mail newspaper. He said they frequently clashed over Bissonnette’s opinions about refugees and support for Le Pen and Trump.
The University Laval confirmed on Monday that Bissonnette was a social science student there.
EXPOSING THE TRUTH IS LIFE THREATENING IN ISRAEL
So true in Israel today
So true in Israel today
The greatest threat to the extreme right in Israel is not terrorism, it is TRUTH.
After the conviction of the soldier terrorist Elor Azaria, the right launched a campaign to free him. The mouthpiece of the right, our local Psycho Gal has been the most vocal, which came as no surprise to anyone.
As stated above, the TRUTH is their greatest threat.
Not necessarily so in Israel
Not necessarily so in Israel
Here is the result of the anti-Truth campaign ….. FROM
Harassment and attacks against activist who filmed Hebron shooting continue
Israeli settlers attempted to break into the Hebron home of activist Imad Abu Shamsiyya and threw stones at the house Saturday evening, as he has continued to be the target of death threats and harassment after he filmed an Israeli soldier shoot a Palestinian to death last year.
In a rare move move, the soldier was convicted of manslaughter earlier this week, in large part due to the damning footage captured by Abu Shamsiyya, amid a backdrop of what critics have called a culture of impunity for Israeli soldiers who are not held accountable for similar cases of apparent “extrajudicial executions” of Palestinians.
On Wednesday, the day of conviction, Abu Shamsiyya said he “feared for his life.”
Since his footage went viral the day of the shooting back in March 2015, Abu Shamsiyya has been the target of violent settler incursions on his home and has received hundreds of death threats online.
Leading up to the announcement of the verdict, Abu Shamsiyya said that members of Elor Azarya’s family — the soldier who was ultimately convicted for the shooting — broke into his home and “asked me to go to court and change my testimony.” He said he had video footage proving the incursion took place.
Israel settlers returned to his home Saturday evening, he told Ma’an, and attempted to break into his home.
Abu Shamsiya told Ma’an that settlers gathered around his house, and when they failed to break in, they hurled stones, causing minor damages.
He highlighted that large numbers of Israeli forces were present when the settlers attacked the house and soldiers intervened and drove away the attackers.
Abu Shamsiyya added that in March he had asked the Israeli army to provide him protection from settlers, as death threats began pouring in on Facebook while others attempted to bribe him to change his witness testimony.
An Israeli army spokesperson told Ma’an they were looking into the reports of Saturday nights attack.
The United Nations Human Rights Office of the High Commissioner last month condemned the “daily violations” of human rights and international law faced by activists and human rights defenders in the occupied Palestinian territory.
A “worrying number of complaints” have been filed by human rights activists to the UN in recent months, which have highlighted in particular the Israeli government practice of arbitrarily detaining Palestinian activists “as a direct result of their important work in their communities.”
“The right of all those who are seeking hope and participation in concrete, nonviolent action must be protected, particularly as we are seeing the deepening entrenchment of the Israeli occupation and the accompanying human rights violations,” the report said.
Amnesty International released a statement Wednesday saying that the conviction of Elor Azarya “must pave the way for justice for unlawful killings.”
“Today’s conviction of a member of the Israeli forces is a rare occurrence in a country with a long record of using excessive and unwarranted force, and where soldiers who may have committed crimes under international law very seldom face prosecution. The verdict is a small step in the right direction and offers a glimmer of hope that soldiers who commit unlawful killings may no longer go unpunished,” said Philip Luther, Research and Advocacy Director for the Middle East and North Africa at Amnesty International.
“Sadly, this case is just the tip of the iceberg. Time and again we have witnessed cases where Israeli forces appear to have carried out unlawful killings, displaying an appalling disregard for human life. The authorities’ repeated failure to hold anyone accountable for flagrant violations has fostered a culture in which unlawful killings have become acceptable,” said Philip Luther.
Amnesty international said that they sent a memorandum to Israeli authorities in Sep. 2016, citing at least 20 cases of apparently unlawful killings of Palestinians by Israeli forces, of which at least 15 of those killed were deliberately shot dead, despite posing no imminent threat to life.
CAN WE FORGIVE THE UNFORGIVABLE?
caniforgive
The High Holy Days is the traditional Jewish period for making peace with one’s neighbor. It is a time for forgiveness and starting a new page in relationships with each other.
But, how are we to forgive what is unforgivable. How are we expected to forgive a group of Jewish extremists who maim and kill, even burn to death innocent Palestinian children?
How are we to forgive Palestinian extremists who open fire at innocent civilians waiting for a train in Jerusalem??
Extremism is unforgivable!
Murder is unforgivable!!
Piracy is unforgivable!!!
All stemming from apartheid which is the root cause of these sins.
On this, the eve of the holiest day on the Hebrew calendar, Jews throughout the world will begin the Holiday with the chanting of Kol Nidre
Both Jews and Muslims pound their chest when begging their God for forgiveness ….
In both cases it is meaningless if the sins are repeated as soon as the prayers are over.
It is time for a REAL forgiveness …. a time for a REAL Peace, based on understanding and love.
It is time to end the madness that is destroying the world!
NATIVE RIGHTS ~~ WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
*
Report by Chippy Dee
On Friday evening, September 9th, a group of about 400 New Yorkers gathered in Washington Square Park to rally in support of the Native Americans in Standing Rock North Dakota who are resisting the installation of a crude oil pipeline through their sacred burial ground and next to their source of clean water which the pipeline will put in jeopardy.  Hundreds of tribes have native people on the site who are, with their bodies, stopping the project from moving forward.  They have been set upon with large dogs who have been biting them and drones are flying over their campsite.
The unique aspect of this rally was the presence of groups that are also supporting human rights for the people of Palestine.  At one point a speaker pointed out the similarities of the 2 peoples – both live in colonial-settler states, both have lost their rights, their land, and their water, both live in poverty.   After the connection was made the entire group chanted, “Free, free Palestine”.  With the increased ability to communicate over great distances more and more people are recognizing the commonality in their struggles and are joining forces in solidarity with one another.
MISSISSIPPI CONTINUES TO BURN AS CASE IS CLOSED
After 52 Years, the “Mississippi Burning” Case Closes
The Department of Justice and State of Mississippi close the investigation of three civil rights workers killed by KKK members in 1964
Never to be forgotten
Never to be forgotten
Fifty-two years after three civil rights workers were killed by members of the Ku Klux Klan, authorities have officially closed the “Mississippi Burning” case.
“There’s nothing else that can be done,” Mississippi Attorney General Jim Hood said in a press conference covered by Jerry Mitchell at The Clarion-Ledger on Monday. “I am convinced that during the last 52 years, investigators have done everything possible under the law to find those responsible and hold them accountable; however, we have determined that there is no likelihood of any additional convictions. Absent any new information presented to the FBI or my office, this case will be closed.”
The case started in the summer of 1964, when James Chaney, Andrew Goodman and Michael Schwerner were working to register African-American voters as part of the Freedom Summer campaign. On June 21, the three men traveled to investigate the burning of a church in Neshoba County, as History.com reports.
The Neshoba County deputy sheriff, Cecil Price, also a member of the White Knights of the Ku Klux Klan, pulled their car over on a speeding charge and made the trio spend hours in jail in the town of Philadelphia.
Investigators later learned that when the men were released from jail, Price tipped off his fellow Klansmen, and then drove to apprehend the activists’ car, himself. Price would eventually catch up to the three men and pull them over. Klansmen then took the activists to an unmarked road where they were beaten and then shot at close range.
The FBI called the investigation, MIBURN (for “Mississippi Burning”) after discovering the men’s charred car two days after they went missing, according to a release by the agency. The FBI would find the men’s bodies several weeks after that. Though an informant identified the 19 assailants, they were not charged by the State of Mississippi. The U.S. Justice Department, however, found a way to charge the assailants for violating the activists’ civil rights. But in 1967, an all-white jury and segregationist judge acquitted nine of the defendants, deadlocked on three, and found seven guilty, including Price. The men were sentenced to terms between three and nine years in jail.
In June, 2005, on the 41 anniversary of the three murders, Edgar Ray Killen, the Klan leader who orchestrated the attack, was found guilty of three counts of manslaughter. In 2010, Hood reopened the case. While two other men involved in the murders are still alive, Hood does not believe there is enough evidence to indict them.
“Tragically for the people of Mississippi, and for our nation, many murders took place over so many years, in which people of color were targeted, and those who attempted to support them became the victims of brutality as well, all deprived of basic civil rights of citizens,” Schwerner’s widow, Rita Bender tells Mitchell. She urges Mississippi officials “to face up to the past and for the people of Mississippi and all of our country to find the resolve to move forward.”
Not everyone thinks its time to move forward. “This case is about Americans murdering Americans because they want to be Americans. This case will never be closed until it heals the wounds that have divided our country,” Goodman’s older brother David tells Juleyka Lantigua-Williams at The Atlantic. “You can’t move past a wound while it’s open, even if you cover it up with a bandage.”
In 2008, Congress passed the Emmett Till Unsolved Civil Crimes Act, giving the FBI $10 million per year for 10 years to investigate civil-rights-era cold cases, like the Mississippi case. But Janis McDonald, Syracuse law professor and co-director of the Cold Case Justice Initiative accuses the Justice Department of sitting on hundreds of cases of activists being killed police, the KKK and racist individuals. “This doesn’t have anybody’s priority,” she tells Lantigua-Williams. “They’re just not doing the kind of full investigations that the act promised these families they would.”
In 2014, President Obama posthumously awarded Chaney, Goodman and Schwerner the Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian honor in the United States.
Bibi Netanyahu Statement on the Orlando Terror Attack
“In Orlando, a terrorist walks into a nightclub and murders nearly 50 human beings. Sons and daughters, brothers and sisters cut down in cold blood.
They did nothing wrong. They were dancing with friends, they were enjoying music with loved ones.
Why did the terrorist murder them?
Because he was driven by a fanatical hatred.
He targeted the LGBT community because he believed they were evil.
Now, the murderer wasn’t alone.
Regimes and terrorist organizations around the world ruthlessly persecute the LGBT community.
In Syria, ISIS throws gays off rooftops.
In Iran, the regime hangs gays from cranes.
Too many people have remained silent in the face of this awful persecution.
This week’s shooting wasn’t merely an attack on the LGBT community. It was an attack on all of us, on our common values of freedom and diversity and choice.
Radical Islamist terror makes no distinction between shades of infidel.
This week it was gays in Orlando. A few days before that it was Jews in Tel Aviv. Before that it was music fans in Paris; Travelers in Brussels; Yazidis in Iraq; Community workers in San Bernardino; Christians and journalists in Syria.
All of us are targets.
We believe that all people are created in the image of God.
ISIS, by contrast, believes that all people who aren’t just like them deserve to die.
We will not be terrified into submission.
We will fight back. And we will triumph.
Today I ask you to reach out to friends in the LGBT community. Comfort them.
Tell them you stand together, we stand together as one. And that you will always remember the victims.
Tell them they will never be alone, that we are all one family deserving of dignity, deserving of life.
I have no doubt that those who seek to spread hate and fear will be defeated.
Working together we will defeat them even faster.
We need to stand united, resolute in the belief that all people regardless of their sexual orientation, regardless of their race, regardless of their ethnicity, all people deserve respect, deserve dignity.”
Notorious Jewish ‘Terrorist’ To Be Freed — Despite Ties To Firebomb Murder of Palestinian Family
Meir Ettinger, the suspected head of a right-wing Jewish terrorist cell who is being held in administrative detention, will be released from jail.
The Lod District Court determined Tuesday that Ettinger would be released in June after the Shin Bet security service said it would not request an extension of his detention. But the Shin Bet also said it would impose restrictions on who Ettinger can come in contact with and what communities he can live in and visit, the Hebrew-language news website Walla reported .
Ettinger, the grandson of the slain far-right extremist Meir Kahane, has been held in administration detention without being charged since August 2015. The detention was extended in February.
Administrative detention allows Israeli authorities to hold suspected terrorists for six months at a time without filing formal charges. The detention, which is generally used against Palestinians, can be renewed indefinitely.
Ettinger, who spent several weeks in solitary confinement and has had limited contact with his family, was arrested for “involvement in violent activities and terrorist attacks that occurred recently, and his role as part of a Jewish terrorist group,” according to Israeli authorities.
His arrest was linked to the firebombing of a home in the West Bank Palestinian village of Duma that left an infant and his parents dead. Three people were convicted in connection with the attack.
Shin Bet officials have said Ettinger heads a movement that also was responsible for the June arson of the historic Church of the Multiplication of the Loaves and Fishes, and seeks to bring down the government and replace it with a Jewish theocracy.
#InIsrael ~~ A DAY OF SELECTIVE MOURNING
At 8 P.M. tomorrow evening sirens will sound throughout Israel. Traffic will come to a complete halt as Israelis stand in silence for one minute to honour and remember their fallen soldiers and victims of terrorism. This will be followed by ceremonies at military cemeteries and government institutions all evening and all of the next day until sundown.
Animated_Candle
Who will stand with me to honour and remember the hundreds of Palestinian children and women killed by Israeli soldiers and zioterrorists?
Who will stand with me to honour the memory of Democracy itself in Israel??
Hopefully I will not be standing alone.
Here I present a recent post from the archives dealing with some recent killings …
A TIME FOR ALL JEWS TO MOURN
According to both Jewish and Muslim rituals, a dead person must be buried as soon as possible. Notifications are usually posted in Jewish neighbourhoods in Israel to announce the time of the funeral. Announcements are made via loudspeakers from local mosques announcing the same.
BUT ….
This week was different as death notices for a murdered Palestinian child appeared in Jewish areas …
As well as one for a young girl stabbed to death at Jerusalem’s Pride Parade
Death notices, in the style of the public mourning notices that are commonplace across Israel, have appeared — posted in public areas and online, in Hebrew and English — mourning the two lost children and noting the climate of hatred that spurred on these Jewish extremist attacks. Controversial for their inventive remixing of a “classic” Israeli cultural phenomenon, the mourning notices easily attract attention. They were created by Ilana Sichel and Romy Achituv, writers and artist-activists who sought to commemorate what they called the victims of “our society’s ills: our intolerance, our hatred, our prejudice.”
Rabbis visit Palestinian family targeted in firebomb attack Tzohar
Whatever the reasons are for this show of solidarity, they are positive moves. Perhaps it is in preparation for the demise of the Jewish State itself, if these senseless murders continue.
The following is a MUST READ
All Israelis Are Guilty of Setting a Palestinian Family on Fire
It’s simply not possible to cheer for the brigade commander who shoots a Palestinian teenager, and then be shocked by settlers who throw a firebomb at an inhabited house.
Gideon Levy
Israelis stab gay people and burn children. There isn’t a shred of slander, the slightest degree of exaggeration, in this dry description. True, these are the actions of a few. True, too, that their numbers are increasing. It’s true that all of them – all the murderers, everyone who torches, who stabs, who uproots trees – are from the same political camp. But the opposing camp also shares the blame.
All those who thought that it would possible to sustain islands of liberalism in the sea of Israeli fascism were shown up this weekend, once and for all. It’s simply not possible to cheer for the brigade commander who shoots a teenager, and then be shocked by the settlers who set a family on fire; to support gay rights, and hold a founding conference in Ariel; to be enlightened, and then pander to the right and seek to partner with it. Evil knows no bounds; it begins in one place and quickly spreads in every direction.
The first breeding ground of those who torched the Dawabsheh family was the Israel Defense Forces, even if the offenders didn’t serve in it. When the killing of 500 children in the Gaza Strip is legitimate, and doesn’t even compel a debate, a moral reckoning, then what’s so terrible about setting a house on fire, together with its inhabitants? After all, what’s the difference between lobbing a fire bomb and dropping a bomb? In terms of the intention, or the intent, there is no difference.
When the shooting of Palestinians becomes an almost daily occurrence – two more have already been killed since the family was burned: one in the West Bank, another on the border of the Gaza Strip – who are we to complain about the fire throwers in Duma? When the lives of Palestinians are officially the army’s for the taking, their blood cheap in the eyes of Israeli society, then settler militias are also permitted to kill them. When the IDF’s ethic in the Gaza Strip is that it is permitted to do anything in order to save one soldier, who are we to complain about right-wingers like Baruch Marzel, who told me this weekend it was permissible to kill thousands of Palestinians in order to protect a single hair from the head of a Jew. Such is the atmosphere, such is the result. Original responsibility for it goes to the IDF.
No less to blame, of course, are the governments and politicians who vie with each other over who can suck up the most to the settlers. Whoever gives them 300 new homes in exchange for their violence at the flagship settlement of Beit El is telling them not only that violence is permissible, but also that it pays. It is already hard to draw the line between throwing bags of urine at police officers and fire bombs into people’s homes.
Also to blame, of course, are the law enforcement authorities, starting with the Judea and Samaria District Police – the most ridiculous and scandalous of all police districts, and not by chance. Nine Palestinian homes were torched in the past three years, according to B’Tselem. How many people have been prosecuted? None. So what happened in Duma on Friday? The fire was simply better, in the eyes of the arsonists and their minions.
Their minions also include the silent, the forgiving and all those who think the evil will remain forever within the confines of the West Bank. Their minions also include the Israelis who are convinced that the People of Israel is the chosen people, and as a result is permitted to do anything – including torching the homes of non-Jews, with their inhabitants inside.
So, too, many of those who were shocked by the act, including figures who have visited the victims in Sheba Medical Center, outside Tel Aviv – the president, the prime minister, the opposition leader and their aides – imbibed the racist, infuriating “You have chosen us from all the peoples” with their mothers’ milk.
At the end of a terrible day, it is this that leads to the burning of families whom God did not choose. No principle in Israeli society is more destructive, or more dangerous, than this principle. Nor, unfortunately, more common. If you were to examine closely what is concealed beneath the skin of most Israelis, you would find: the chosen people. When that is a fundamental principle, the next torching is only a matter of time.
Their minions are everywhere, and most of them are now tsk-tsking and expressing dismay at what happened. But what occurred couldn’t have not happened; what happened was dictated by the needs of reality, the reality of Israel and its value system. What happened will happen again, and no one will be spared. We all torched the Dawabsheh family.
About 2,000 Israelis rallied in central Tel Aviv on Tuesday night in support of soldier Elor Azaria, who shot dead a neutralized terrorist in Hebron.
Sergeant Azaria, 20, from Ramla, was charged on Monday with manslaughter for killing Abed al Fatah a-Sharif, who was lying on the ground seriously wounded after he and another Palestinian attacked IDF soldiers.
The protesters waved support signs and flags, some wrapping the Israeli flag around themselves. Many called for Azaria’s release, while some made racist jeers.
Among the slogans chanted by rally attendees were “Elor the Hero,” “Terrorists shouldn’t be neutralized – they should be killed,” and “Kill or be killed.”
Azaria’s parents, Charlie and Oshra, and his sister Etti, spoke at the rally, as well as journalist Sharon Gal, who was one of the rally’s organizers.
Family members of terror victims also spoke at the rally, including Dvora Gonen, who lost her son Danny Gonen, and Ruit Hasano, who lost her husband Avraham Asher Hasano.
Several musicians are scheduled to appear at the rally and perform, including singers Moshik Afia, Maor Edri and Amos Elgali, and rapper Subliminal.
Singers Eyal Golan and David Doar, who initially agreed to perform, withdrew at the last minute in the wake of public outrage.
“I would have liked to come to perform at the assembly in the name of art, and personally as a performer and as a human being. However, I’m sorry to say that there are those who will use this as a political spectacle,” Golan said.
Doar also decided against performing at the square, saying “I wanted to show my sympathy to the family of the soldier – not to say anything against the IDF or the IDF Chief of Staff, God forbid.”
He then went on to add that he didn’t know that “this was going to be an event with a political orientation.”
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu commented on the issue on Tuesday, saying that “As the father of a soldier and as prime minister, I would like to reiterate: The IDF backs its soldiers. I am convinced that an examination of the event in Hebron will be done responsibly and sagaciously.”
The prime minister also expressed his trust in the courts, saying “in my familiarity with the military justice system, I am convinced that the court will consider all circumstances regarding the incident. Our soldiers are not murderers. They act against murderers and I hope that a way will be found to balance between the action and the overall context of the event. In the meantime I suggest that everyone lower the flames.”
Due to the event, Ibn Gvirol Street will be closed to vehicular traffic between Shaul HaMelech and Arlozorov streets. Frishman Street will be closed to traffic between Masaryc Square and Ibn Gvirol Street, David HaMelech Blvd will be closed to traffic between Weitzman Street and Ibn Gvirol Street, Gordon Street will be closed to traffic between Shlomo Hamelech Street to Malchei Israel, and the eastern side of Malchei Yisrael itself will be closed to traffic between Sderot Chen to Ben Gurion Boulevard.
